I bought Fifa 12 for PS3 a few weeks ago to play UT. My team is shit (half English, most around 78-80 skill) and their contracts all run out.
If I win a game I win 500-700, but then I spend 500 on a contract.
If I try play a tournament then I play against allstar Barcelona teams all the time and get raped :(

I got a bit lucky though. I played with my bronze team and never aimed higher. Thought I won't make it anyway with FIFA 13 coming and the coins coming in so slowly. So I just kept playing with my bronze team against bronze guys. Won quite a few matches, gathered some money. Bought a golden pack, got a few good players, sold them for profit. Then got a few more packs, got a TOTW player Blazczykowski or whatever he was. He was worth around 350k, sold him for 250k though. Then built my first team, the premier one. With enough coins left around, bought a few more packs (you always get a shitload of contracts from these packs, all my players have at least 50 matches left in all 3 teams atm) and got lucky again. Striked a few IF players and a TOTW Khedira. Sold him for 320K, then searched through auctions and built a team around my IF De Rossi, cost me around 60k (for PS3 I'm guessing that's like 25k, the PC prices are higher). The trick is to look around at nights, people want to sell their players fast to get money so they lower the prices when there are less buyers around.
Anyway, long story short, I got lucky with a few golden packs, didn't rush a silver team, played some time with my bronze one, that's pretty much it. Now after buying a shitload of packs I have a shitload of players I have no interest in. Hence the topic.

EDIT: Explaining a few things if you don't know yet. an IF card = In Form player card. It's an improved card of a certain player and is usually worth at least 10x more than the regular or rare card of that player. A TOTY card is a Team Of The Year card. Also an upgraded version of the regular or rare card of the same player, usually upgraded more and worth around 50-100x more than the regular/rare card. A TOTW card is a Team Of The Week card, worth a shitload but a little less than team of the year. There was a number of these cards in packs during the European Championships.
EDIT2: If you're buying packs. It's always important to know what things are useful to keep. For example, Manchester City or Lazio home jerseys always sell for a huge amount of money because they simply look cool. Or a Juventus away jersey. Or a Borussia Dortmund away jersey. Things like that. Also if you get an orange, pink or a blue game ball out of the pack, they sell a lot more than just regular ones for example. Also, contracts and fitness are the two largest sellers in this game in the auction, you might want to look around at auctions at nights, maybe hit someone who has put the starting price of something to 150, the auction is ending and nobody has noticed (the item might actually be worth thousands, have had it happen a couple of times, to my items as well :p)
My problem is that a contract is ~500 and a win gives me 500/700 so I make no money, and I don't usually win because I play vs. Barcelona/Real Madrid allstar lineup.
Here's another tip. Start every game by playing defensively, change your mentality to ultra defensive for the first 20-30 minutes of game time. Try to counter attack, let your opponent rage a bit and make mistakes so he will create the chances for you to score himself. After you've understood how he plays, you can counter that style of playing. Most players in FIFA only have one style, they either go for the pace abusing style (through passes and lobs over your defenders for fast attackers) or pace wingers for good crosses and strikers with good headers. They usually don't mix anything up so it's easy to counter once you're familiar with his gameplay.
Keep your goal clear, you earn extra coins for a clean sheet. You lose coins for every foul, offside, yellow/red card, conceded goal. You gain coins by scoring goals and having shots on target. The maximum amount of coins you can earn by scoring is when you score 5 goals. So it doesn't really matter if you score more, 5 goals will give you the maximum amount of coins. So if you manage to score 5-0, make sure you don't go cocky and concede a goal, you instantly lose around 35 coins.
