I've just been flamed hard for having milk with my tea, almost like it's something unheard of in the universe.

Milk is fine, as long as it's with the right kind of tea. Milk in black tea is one thing, milk in a herbal tea might be something very different.

All depends, tbh I think you'll find someone else did indeed try it before the Chinese, even if they did make it 'popular' in England. There's different teabags for areas here as water tastes different per region, it's called 'water softness'. There's a job for some poor soul who has to taste the tea and spit it out like wine tasting, YUK.
