they wanted it to be more attractive to new users and be able to compete with other sites. because, lets face it, from a design and coding point of view the old site was quite outdated (no surprise after so many years, at some point a fresh start is needed, because you can't "update" infinitely)

and already the "old" community wasn't quite big anymore. maybe 50-80 user even writing comments, not to talk about users actually writing journals. keeping a site running for that few people just doesn't pay off.

that there are "no" new users is probably more a marketing and content issue than an issue with the design. the biggest part of this community is, lets be honest, are or were ET players. but since the competition is kinda dead so is the community behind it. what this site would need would likely be a new game. but that is a ) not an easy to find and b) would have to be super active, though not be overrepresented on another site. so that only leaves completely new titles, maybe such as painkiller. not another COD title, since that crowd is already being served.
