very unlikely but in case of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo they made it better than the original (made by the master David Fincher tho)

Ye, remakes are usually far worse than the originals, for example 'Let the right one in' was great but its american remake called 'Let me in' didn't appeal to me at all. But as for asian movies and its remakes, I msut say I liked the american version of 'The ring' better than its japanese original. You may not know this but Scorsese's 'The departed' was also based on an asian movie called 'Internal affairs' and it was freaking awesome. So yeah, the history clearly shows that remakes aren't as good as the films they're based on but there are a few that surpass the originals. Having a good director and a great cast it's possible so let's hope the new Oldboy fits the second category of remakes :P
