well, i tell you my case. I used to play in linux (ubuntu jaunty 9.04) until tzac came out, I have a decent pc (corei5+ati hd5770 well more than u need for et), and had stable 125fps...all the time in any map, any server.. then tzac came out i had to switch to windows XP and i still had stable 125 fps , now when i changed to win7 the shit began...
I had 125 "most of the time" , but i had drops from 125 to 120 and 118.. fps in some maps and when there were more than 3 players in my screen at same time (lol) , so well i did this (making windows look like shit by disabling all the effects and stuff) and well now i only lag if much 1 fps (from 125 to 124) in those same situations i mentioned..
Perhaps for some ppl those "little" fps are nothing, but for me is annoying since i never had it until i switched to windows..
it rlly helps if u are a fps lagger.

In all my years of "variety gaming" i have never encountered such a diva.
however, ET can run just fine under win7 and there should no reason not to regarding system specs and OS requirements.
in your case its prolly more of a driver issue.
