create a station account on planetside2.com and use the launcher, not steam.
while it might not be the most mature or respectable its still a german broadcasting giant. there wont be any dodgy things done with your info.
people just got buttmad that the release was botched and dont know who they actually are so rumors spread, as it is the way on the internet.
however i do get avoiding an unessecary third party involvement so you can just make a soe station account and use the launcher to play the game rather than having to put up with pro7/sat1.
at the end of the day it doesnt matter. once you have either account and things are working you dont actually have to worry about things.
the only matters to concern you then is the game itself which, quite frankly, is nowhere near as good as people make it out to be. give them a couple weeks to get over the first wave of amazement and theyll realize that in terms of balance and gameplay mechanics the game still has mountains to climb.
