Logitech G400

So i've been using a Logitech G5 for like 7 years, had a G500 meanwhile but i didn't like it at all (heavy, unbalanced, too big for my hand..).

So yeah, bought a G400. Any tips?
- Are you using Logitech Gaming Software?
- Dpi's (for full hd)?
- MarkC_Windows7_MouseFix or something similar?

Somehow the cable seems cheap near G5/G500, there is no weight control or leds showing the dpi's, but then again it was really cheap (29.90€).

Cheers

dont use anything, set 400DPI and always just plug&play
using the logitech gaming software but well 400 dpi and 500hz like almost anyone rest i didnt change D:
dpi for full hd well just increase it :P
and yeah cable is cheap watch out that u dont rip it apart
Well, my 7 years old G5 cable is still as new, so i guess it will last, but still, expected better.

Why 500 hz? Isn't it 1000hz default?
Parent
i never saw any mouse till now getting stable 1000 hz
nor is 500 totally stable but its way better than 125hz :P
and u wont see the difference anyway its from 2ms(500hz) to 1ms(1000hz)
so i would advise not to use 1000hz on any mouse
maybe in the future but right now it sux D:

True, but usually the max / min peaks are acceptable :o atleast at my G5

as u can see with 500 its not perfectly stable well thats the best u can get nowaday i suppose
but 1000hz is way different check it out :)
u get numbers from 100 to 1000 :P
thats not acceptable well atleast i dont think so :/

That's my 7 yo G5, haven't connected the G400 yet... Will do it soon ^^
Parent
best value is 250hz
-u dont need more
-over 250hz it starts to be cpu intensive, interfiring with the game itself
Parent
Doubt you can even notice if you have a good enough cpu. I have stable 125 fps, event with max settings...
Parent
from 100 to 1000? nice joke

You can calculate the needed minimum dpi for your specific resolution, fov etc with this little tool ((c) h8m3).
Other than that, I'd recommend using the Mousefix you posted. I have no idea about the Logitech software, if it comes with tons of useless mouse enhancing fixes, I personally wouldn't use it and rely on the default settings.
I have no clue what the new Logitech software brings. I only used Setpoint back then (terrible program).

Thank you for the link. I have no clue how many cm's i need to do a 360, will test soon, but seems like 400 dpi or lower is enough for me :X

It's enough for most, even on higher resolutions and it's most likely causing least problems regarding negative/positive acceleration etc.

g500 ftw
I have g400 and I haven't used the program. Using 400dpi 1000hz.

G400 and MX518 still share bad cord and it breaks pretty easily but if you just use it carefully I think you'll be fine.
Considering my 7+ yo G5 is still rolling, i would say i use everything carefully :P Even my 7 years old headset lasted along time, but only 1 side works now (thats why i also get a new headset)!
Parent
which one u got? Im so annoyed by the fact that every single headset i had, it died cus of wire contact and ending up only one side of the earphones working, so annoying when u pay for some decent headset and get the same problem as u got with the 5€ one.
Parent
Well, i had a Zalman 5.1 for long time till it stopped working as i said, but then again i am really careful with the cables. They are not on the floor so it kinda lasts. I bought a Sennheiser PC 320 Game, hope they last. But my choice was a Sennheiser HD 439 with some external mic, but they were out of stock and i didn't wanna wait. The HD 439 have a removable cable. It even comes with a normal 1.5m cable for mp3 and a 3m cable for pc usage. Check it out, it's the best solution if the cable is always the problem ^^
Parent
well i got to buy new one as well, as the current one is dieing, due to the one earphone not working, but i prob wont spend more than 30-50€ as its pretty pointless to throw big chunk of cash into it and then after year or two be forced to buy new one again.

what does mouse dpi have to do with fullhd? :s

nvm saw urtiers link xd
I am not a pro, but seems like the higher your resolution is, less dpi's you need!
Parent
just use as little programs as u can, best is just to plug and play and just find the right sense.
best mouse ever

400 dpi
500hz
2.8 in game sens
windows default sens

Isn't it hard to move the mouse at daily windows usage @ default sense + 400 dpi? Takes ages to move from one side to another at full hd!

Why 500hz instead of default 1000hz?

Thanks for sharing!

I used to play with mx518 for over 3 years, it was great mouse. Then I switch to Steelseries Ikari which was awesome as well, but dbl click issue kept me away from repurchasing it. So I got myself G400. Here is my setup:
- Windows 7 64-bit
- no logitech shit software!!! (it was shit back then and I am not gonna trust it now)
- default (in the middle) windows sens
- MarkC mousefix
- 400 DPI ingame (I seriously doubt you will need more than that in any normal circuumstances anyway)
- 1000Hz (this is default value for G400, I don't see why would anyone change that...)
- 2.65-3.8 ingame sens (ranging from ~25 to 15cm for 180 turn), depends on how my mousepad feels
- in QL I use 4.2-4.6
Well, i feel tempted to test the Logitech software considering this new one was made for gamers. Curious of how it performs. Will see, might test the G400 in less than a hour, cleaning my place atm..

Cheers

I am better off not testing it. When I installed Setpoint when I first got MX518, it just fucked up everything it could and it took me half a day to clean everything up in registry (especially acceleration, even after uninstalling setpoint it kept turning acceleration on). Unless you would want different DPI for horizontal/vertical movement I don't think there is anything in mouse soft you could benefit from.

ive got log gaming software,1600dpi(dont ask why, been using it since day 1 on this mouse and since i play sc2 its not as important as it was in et(well not important there either cuz i was bad))...1000hz..mousefix?is that relevant in win7?
- Are you using Logitech Gaming Software?
YES, its totally different and better then the one from mx518.

- Dpi's (for full hd)?
I use 1000 dpi, 1600x900 reso and i like it.

- MarkC_Windows7_MouseFix or something similar?
I use windows default, makes me move better, but MarkC makes u track a little better.

-1000hz
-Pretty good mouse
-Cable is shit as the mx518's, which takes the risk to stop responding after few months
yep but still by far best buy mouse on market..and will stay as long as its being produced.for 30€ its absolutely amazing
Parent
funny never had any problems with cable on mx518
Parent
1000hz, 850dpi, 1440x900, 6/11win, may be kinda highsens, using software, cause why the fuck not,

sup with your g500, how different is it really? I find my g400 a bit light&small :/

Also has anyone been using the roccat savu or lachesis?
Well, first i found the G500 a bit too heavy by default and too big for my hand. I also dislike the fact that the sensor is not in the middle, plus it weights more in the "front", if you don't use weights.
And it's a laser mouse, so technically the G400 is better and less expensive.
But it had some good stuff comparing to G400. The scroll was better, you could control the weight / dpi (visual indication), and everything you do can be saved at mouse memory (i guess that's good for gamers / lan).
Parent
ah alright, got mine for free :P won't buy a new mouse while I got this, but the 500 seemed to be exactly what the 400 lacks for me
Parent
I used bought and used this mouse, sorry but it is a waste of money it rlly sucks!
g400, Logitech gaming software (better than old setpoint), markC fix, win sens 6/11, 400dpi, 3.2 ingamesens, 1000hz, win 7 ultimate 64bit. Everything works fine!
Thanks, but what i am wondering is: how can you guys use 6/11 sense with 400 dpi? Takes ages to move from one side of desktop to another :o
