New Year's Brugge

I will be going to Belgium Brugge (Bruges) for this New Year, and I was wondering if anyone in the region of (or living in) Brugge could tell me something about the sights, and some tips on some nice (not too expensive) restaurants?
Also, I was wondering if there are any special activities regarding New Year (apart from the "firework show" obviously).

Cheers!

Please be very carrefoul what kind of pubs/restaurants/clubs are you vissiting, because it is well known in Belgium there are a lot of dangerous sexually frustrated people not to mention a lot of racists.

I still remember that 5 guys from brugge were beating up a ski lift attendant here because he wouldn't let them through without a ticket, wasn't funny except their faces when they saw the people all around them tried to push them to the ground

but i must say i feel more save walking in brugge than ghent for example. already got robbed once & my friend got beaten up

In general I never liked Bruges much, imo it's highly overrated. Unless you like old buildings, churches and stuff like that there really isn't much to see or do there. However, during christmas & new year holidays the atmosphere is really cozy, there is animation in the streets, gluhwein stands, lots of food and quite a lot of people just enjoying themselves with friends and family out on the streets..
Brugge has plenty of nice restaurants with food from all over the world, just pick whatever you like.
I like the sushi @kanikama
Okay, nice, thanks for the info!

Me and my girlfriend just wanted to visit Bruges once (neither of us have been there yet, but we've visited Antwerp and Ghent before), and we thought this might be a good time. Are there any special "activities" going on during New Year though? I've read about an ice show, and (of course) the fireworks show on the 31st, but other than that I couldn't find a lot of information.

As for restaurants, I guess I'll just be using Foursquare, or ask some locals/bar keepers.

Go. To. Gent. Instead.

Brugge is Gent for old people.

Already been to Gent, and already booked :)

I'm going to Knokke, not far from there, fireworks at the beach and lots of stuff to do, nice bars and good parties etc
I'd really just hit the 2 center squares ('t Zand & Steenstraat) if you are there with your girl. It's romantic, cheap and there's always a good atmosphere.
There are several small festivals and events throughout the city, each with it's own kind of music, but honestly, just dress up warmly and hang around, enjoy some public shows, have a drink and socialize on the squares I mentioned, go in and out of several bars and pubs till you find something to your liking. Or play safe and hit the Irish pub in the center of town ;-)
Okay, I'll surely make use of your information, thanks a lot!

im from bruges :D
edit: if you need infos just ask me!
edit2: if you see a naked homeless guy, its mLy!
Avoid the restaurants on the big squares and you will be fine. Most decent restaurants serve main courses for around 25-35 euro.

Don't worry to much about finding activities, just walk around. You will see many museums and exibitions. If the door is open and it looks nice just go inside.
