if you ask me the only recent and interesting "shooter" that demands complete dedication and has an immense learning curve resulting in proper competitive play is Natural Selection 2.
all the f2pfps, fpsmmo, cod copies and arena shooters out there dont really offer anything that would make people want to play it for an extended period of time.
also worth checking out if you liked blacklight is Ghost Recon Online. Thats in open beta but hasnt really gotten that much attention yet.
e: also got Firefall beta keys to give away given that I get one back from you once the next bunch is unlocked to all active accounts.
I like the teamplay style FPS that is not MMO like but i will check out ghost recon online ^_^
trust me you learn that the first time you go get a scrim. its highly tactical and you can fuck up (as in make a wrong decision) in the matter of minutes, even seconds.
its highly competitive, unique and very active. i play pcws and gathers nearly every day.
