megui profile 2k13

hi community

i'm making a short cpm movie, but I haven't made any movies since like 2009 and I have a new OS, so I don't have any megui profiles and i don't really know how to make one in the new x264. are there any good ones out for current x264 versions?

thank

make et movie =[
I found that the default profiles are more than sufficient nowadays. Just go for a 3-pass, 5-10k bitrate depending on the content and set it to Slower or Very Slow (Placebo is oldschool overkill without a turbo first pass).
okay, i'll give it a try! thanks :)

Also, stick to the Stable updates (gives better odds of for instance YouTube compatibility). I've never been able to get rid of the artifacting on YouTube (tested different settings and bitrates even), so if you figure that one out, let me know.

well i'm currently on the second pass.. 2 hours elapsed, 30 minutes remaining.. so I really hope this render works -,-. Shoulda done a test run, oh well. Is the youtube thing just for some people or everyone?

Nah, just personal experience over the past few years with a lot of different version of MeGUI and x264 (maybe I'm just doing it wrong).

With latest X264 and Megui settings i am using this:

image: Megui%20Settings

You can also import them by selecting File -> Import Presets: http://beta-gaming.de/et/ag0n/Megui-x264-Settings.zip

The amount of bitrate can be lowered a bit, but since i like good quality stuff i prefer to keep it kinda high.
do you think 3 passes are necessary for gaming footage? i've heard people say it doesn't really have much benefit for encoding these days, but i'm wondering if it's actually necessary since gaming movies have fast motion and such?
also any reasoning behind b-frames 4? usually it's higher, right?

More passes means better encode, so yeah. Personally i think it's worth it, plus ET and Q3 are fast motion, so yeah!

About b-frame 4, well, no idea. I tested uv-Max settings ages ago and improved them. Never really asked why some settings have X value because they worked well / as expected.

The settings are share are slow and they can produce some good quality!
