Sir, Yes, Sir!

nah
Parent
you read a lot of fantasy books and find these the best ones? Strange
i didnt refer that i read fantasy books..i meant books in general.

and even for a fantasy, its better than lord of the rings and harry potter :~>

You did not just say GoT is better than LOTR.

Oh Jew...
Parent
They are one off my favourites, but I still prefer WoT and LotR. Thing with LotR though, is that they are pretty old and, depending on the version, hey can feel rather dated.
Parent
why i love george martin's books is because (and he even say that) most of fantasy books are black and white.. there is a good side and a bad side (humans vs orcs) etc etc...

in his books there are many many sides, there can be good side which is bad and vica versa!

its amazing!

Neither LotR or WoT are black and white. I can't believe you would think that off LotR. Sure there is an obvious bad guy, but are you sure you read the books? In LotR just look at Théoden, Sméagol, Saruman, Boromir, etc. Don't know why I'm even listing people, every character in LotR had enough depth to not be black and white or purely good or evil :)

lotr is the father of blue vs red ...........

The fact that there is an evil of all evils (Sauron), doesn't mean it's black and white. It's true that a lot of fantasy features a character or entity which is pure evil, but that doesn't mean those books are 'black and white', like you mentioned. Most fantasy, including LotR, revolves around an internal and external struggle of the 'good' and the 'bad'.

So in a way it can appear 'black and white', because the struggle between good and evil on different levels is a core concept in many fantasy books. But that's exactly why most of those books aren't 'black and white', just like in GoT.

(Boromir, Denethor and Isildur are convincing examples. If you can't empathize with characters like these, then sure, the books can seem very bi-polar.)

Only thing that comes remotely close is The Wheel of Time and perhaps Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, though they both venture in other genres. But other than that, I haven't been hooked to a book series, like this, in years, it's as if Asimov and King had a lovechild that dabbles in writing medieval novels.

I am not an expert myself but I'd rate The Chronicles of Amber higher than GoT. Also Malazan Book of the Fallen series is said to be the best fantasy series but unfortunately I didnt read it yet so can only quote others opinion :(

Need to read wheel of time as well a lot of ppl mention it!
Hitchikers guide seems to me like cheaper version of pratchett, cant force myself to continue reading it after the first 50 pages :D

Stick to it, it's great. Douglas Adams didn't get all that praise for nothing. :)

I'll have a look into the The Chronicles of Amber, generally not my type of genre, but it sounds intriguing nonetheless.

Only remotely close? I guess GoT has this sober fantasy style which a lot of people seem to enjoy a lot. I love it aswell, it's very down to earth and intense. WoT is different, more dramatic and megalomaniac but I wouldn't rate it less than GoT.

But I guess thats your personal opinion :)
