Lightboost, how to 'improve' your 120 hz monitor.

http://www.esreality.com/post/2395123/lightboost-faq-crt-quality-on-120hz-lcd/

edit: It gives you less blur at the cost of a input lag, depending on what model you got. Samsung adds a lot of input delay, i tried it and its not worth it. Other monitors can benifit from this.

i stopped reading after CRT monitors..

What is this for? :o
better quality, cheaper price.
Parent
getting better performace out of 120 hz TFT monitors.
Parent
can you tell me how to get better perfomance from 60hz monitor? :<

Only thing i heard about monitors is. That whoever ever had 120hz would never come back to monitor, that has less than 120hz... Dunno why..
Parent
60hz monitor refreshes the screen 60 times a second, 120hz refreshes 120 time per second. Lets say u play et with 120 fps on 60hz monitor, its still the exact same as if u would play with 60 fps on a 60hz monitor, but 120hz monitor can actually refresh the screen 120 times per second making it ALOT smoother
Parent
But max fps that human's eye can regonize is 60 right?
Parent
No it's 24-25, but there is an increased possibility of the eye sensoring a frame at the same time a frame appears on the screen
Parent
What has this to do with mahla's question? 24-25 is the scientifically proven value
Parent
There's no such thing as a scientifically nor a proven value.

Edit: I suspect the first link may have been too incomprehensibly for you. Thus, another source:
http://amo.net/NT/02-21-01FPS.html

I'll make it easier even, here, I'll quote two parts of the wall of text.
QuoteThere is a common misconception in human thinking that our eyes can only interpret 30 Frames Per Second.

Quote This is where this article gets even longer, but read on, please. I will explain to you how the Human Eye can perceive much past the mis conception of 30 FPS and well past 60 FPS, even surpassing 200 FPS.
Parent
I'll talk to my aunt who is an oculist and my uncle who is a neurosurgeon and explain it exactlier if I don't forget about it
Parent
Please do so, and make sure to disprove the hundreds of scientists that have specialized in this area through out the last 3 decades, I'm sure there's quite the award in it for your Aunt and Uncle.
Parent
So I just called my uncle and he said that when he was at university they learned around 30 fps, but the last thing he heard about it (a few years ago) was that the information comming from the rods is processed slightly before the cone information. What we see is not just a single scan but a picture which was put togheter from multiple fragments which were captured at slightly different times, so the current state from what he knows is that around 24 times per second the picture is fully completed but he says my aunt might have more actual information about it
Parent
This goes too deep >.< So I can see 24-25fps , but still there is a chance that my eyes know when the pictures change faster than that, on the screen? dafuq, ima confused.
Parent
Yeah, I'll show you an example:

Here I'll show you two lines, one standing for the eyes', one standing for the screen's refreshes.

Screen: I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I_I
Eye: I__I__I__I__I__I__I__I__I___I___I___I__I__I__I__I___I__I___I_

So, as you can see, the more often the screen refreshes the more likely the eye will synchronously capture one of those

Viewsonic not supported? :(
I stopped reading after Nvidia.
Your reading skills are almost as good as Bobika. Im on AMD and it works perfectly here.
Parent
u have nvidia grapgic card?
i have nvidia 2400 hd and monitor support 120 hz but when i try to play with 120 refresh the screen goes to sleep (:
Parent
monitor is mag innvision 17 inch crt
Parent
wut? gg? nice i wanna test
Parent
care to elaborate how? Last I checked it required nvidia's Stereoscopic 3D which AMD drivers and cards don't supply.
Parent
Guess it has to do something with 2d
Parent
Not really, from what I gathered a few weeks back when I purchased my XL2411T, the only way of making it work with an AMD card is by having an active GeForce card (in the form a laptop or other desktop PC) then hotswap the DVI plug onto your AMD card, which would only last up until the point that you power off your display anyway... But, curious to see if new techniques have emerged yet.
Parent
I got XL2410T
Parent
And that's relevant, how?
Parent
just wanted to inform :D lol!

CMON OVERDRIVE WAKE UP AND GUIDE US!
Parent
It does, indeed,
QuoteAn nVidia graphics card is needed since LightBoost is an nVidia technology.

Maybe your reading skills are just as far off as Bobika's.
Parent
Depends on the monitor, I can do it through my monitor OSD without driver settings. Just read the whole thing.
Parent
Which, yet again, is a method specifically used with specific Samsung monitors only, maybe you should really just re-read it yourself before advising others to do so, or at the very least provide that information when making pointless claims.
Parent
Depends on the monitor. What part of depends on the monitor didnt you understand?
Parent
And it only took you three snide remarks towards others, to reveal that necessary information. Must have been a magnificent day.
Parent
You are right. I'm sorry.

It just annoys the hell out of me that ppl post shit like 'stopped reading after nvidia' etc and other ppl asking 'stupid' questions when the FAQ + comments explain everything in detail, much better then I could ever do.
Parent
Reasonably so, problem with that however is the fact that I'm not going to bother reading a Samsung specific and explicit guide only, when I have an ASUS/BenQ monitor, which is the only brand that offers the OSD lightboost.
Parent
I got a samsung. I used a diff technique, which didnt involve any driver settings, only display settings.
Parent
well i still use my 19" crt for ET gayming :P
can i get it to work on samsung 2233rz?
not supported it seems :<
Parent
I never even started reading
will it work on a samsung SA700?
I had SA700 and tried it on it. Made the input lag even worse. It already got way too much input lag but it became even worse. I should never have bought that monitor.

Just bought BENQ 27"
Parent
well, im actually glad i bought this one. i think its gr8.. nyways i use it mostly for watching movie so...
benq are awesome but too expensive in israel (around 1k USD) for the real good ones.
Parent
Thought i would make an update: http://www.blurbusters.com/easy-lightboost-toastyx-strobelight/

It's a nice little program that makes Lightboost possible on both Ati and Nvidia for "120Hz ASUS or BENQ monitor. Successfully working: ASUS VG248QE, ASUS VG278H, BENQ XL2411T, BENQ XL2720T, ASUS VG278HE, BENQ XL2420T"
