HDD crash? HELP PLS.

Hello!

I wanted to reinstall windows xp on my gf's notebook, because it was slow and crappy after 5 years! So i inserted the disc and started to reinstall the windows, after the DOS installion the machine should reboot itself to proceed to the 2nd part. It rebooted, but it gave me an error "missing some dll", so I rebooted and started the install again from the start.
But this time the HDD is undeteced, I can't see any HDD where I could install the new system. However when I enter BIOS i can see the HDD listed, it not saying it's undetected, you can see name of the HDD even in the bootlist.

So i took out the HDD tried to clean the nootbook and the hdd case, took it back but still the same. When I want to install the windows it says there are no hdd to install it on, but BIOS says it's detected.

Edit: Fixed, BIOS Sata manager -> Mobility

I've had the same issue ages ago and I am not sure how I fixed it. I think i put windows on a second HDD and then i could detect the main one again. Installed Windows on the main one and quickly formatted the 2nd HDD

They're called SATA drivers. Windows XP installations only come with a few generic drivers, so you'll need the right driver for that particular type of HDD, put it on a floppy and hit a key during Windows installation (it'll prompt you to press a key like F3 to load additional drivers).

There is no FDD in the notebook, how else could I manage to load the sata drivers?

Thanks, but I already solved the problem. I was able to change the Sata Manager in the BIOS.

right click computer -> Management -> Disk management, see if its listed there, u might have to format the disk

So your gf's computer was running slow, you tried to fix it and now it doesnt work at all!

I did it once too, then I explained that she doesn't need computer at all and now she is ex :D
