new top players from the last two years? never ceases to amaze me. I love ET.
but yeah in the same season playing with my team suddenly saken's team were interested in recruiting him. :) I tried to get razz playing with him back then because I knew he'd recruit him to his next project for sure (turned out to be queens :d).
Just saying that even when saken recruited him, despite where he played before, it was rather controversial and I had to vouch for him because people he wasn't all that known and people thought he might be cheating.
My main point was that there are players who were good enough or talented enough to perform at a high level, but who either just never cared for it or never got picked up. Phyzic got picked up despite the odds, but there are plenty of players who would have done well at a higher level but just never got the chance (or didn't actively pursue it).
We only knew phyzic and exitium at that point because we played a lot of 3on3 with nkNn. Mostly illumise and chizz6l. And then at overload I only knew him from the occasional game he played with nkNn. So yeah, known in the 3on3 scene, but not so much when it comes to 5on5 or 6on6.
I thought it was a nice example of how even a lot of great players had to slowely climb their way up. It's different now, but back the high skilled ranks were very much closed off for most people. Not because there was no fresh blood, but because it was safer to just play with names you heard before. Only when some of those big names stopped playing did others like phyzic get a chance.
People who didn't have a record of playing on a high skill level, like phyzic, always got called cheater and worse. Just like me and chizz6l. We were always (mostly him because he actually had used a nexus cheat) suspicious and got flamed at repeatedly untill we went to LAN and played with bF.

I can't pick between those last four. They all really dominated the scene for awhile. Most people would pick mAus because he dominated the more recent era of the game, but that's the reason I might not pick him. Tekoa, mystic and Butchji (mAx not so much) all really dominated the game when it was really booming.
Not a lot of people picking mystic, I think that's because he made a comeback which was only partially successful. But he was still doing really good, even when compared to mAus. Says something about how great he was as a player when the game was still fresh.

e: if i could play with any people again in a team that they all took serious would be a mixture of maza, devix, phyzic, bong, kaze, karen(splth/kanzaki), rnz, flashdown etc (talented guys i enjoyed playing with a lot if they were really quite active).
of top players i played a lot with over the years i feel i learnt the most from or feel the most comfortable playing with: clown koop night nuggan sqzz toxic phyzic razz.

I think barely anyone mentions guys like xpaz or mystic because they made comebacks during which they were still great but less dominant. Also Drc was awesome, but everyone would rather spec mystic.
