Portable Headphone Amps

yet another journal...

So does anyone of you have experience with portable headphone amplifiers?

Do you think they are worth it?
How much would you spend, are the lower priced ones also good for boosting volume?
Which one would you recommend?

thankx

They are worth it, if you are an audiofreak and have a headset that is worth a big buck aswell. If not don't even bother.
sennheiser cx-400 not really big buck but im no richey rich. I dig inear headphone so the fat ones are no option for me. also im talking bout portable amps you got that yeah?

there is no need for amp for IEM headphones, especially those cheaper ones that will actually do more harm than good.
Parent
are you sure because on my lappy the headphones sound way better(louder) than on my mp3 and I dont think I have a bad mp3 player.
Parent
your mp3 player may have a shitty preamp or something, newer computer stuff are usually OK with regards to dac and amping shit. really depends on the player as they're all different
Parent
Not strictly true, for the majority of IEM's don't need an amp to power them but quite a few higher end stuff now tend to benefit from them.
Parent
depends if your headphones actually need it or not. if you think they do and you wanna get shit started simple you could go for a CMoyBB (DIY or premade on ebay) or some fiio model maybe
I just want to boost the volume since in the EU you have some ass regulation on volume levels. have you experience with selfmade ones dualbro?
Parent
are you kidding me? doing stuff myself? do you even know me?

but yeah in that case get a cmoyBB. the BB stands for BASS BOOST so it fits the bill perfectly
Parent
you nig you said you can buy them on ebay too so yeah i thought you maybe bought them assnig
Parent
i have a friend who has a paid and hes quite satisfied, i tried them out for a while on my own headphones too and i did noticed a positive difference
Parent
theres only one on ebay for me with a shipping cost of 50 euros. are perhaps trying to rip me off dualm8
Parent
yeah it shows only americanos :/

maybe you can find an affordable fiio somewhere?

i've got an old cmoy from ebay, it depends what chip you have. mine is pretty old and has the OPA2227p opamp but still think it produces decent boost, think you can get them pre made for about 20-25? for a bit more money you can look into getting a fiio e7 or the upgrade e07k.

i've owned the cx 400 and they don't really need any amping at all, hell my hd25's run great through a rockboxed clip+. but it does all depend on what you're playing it through, for example my current mp3 player i've had to deal with is an old philips go gear and it's shit with my iem and basically anything so I do pair my cmoy with it at times.

if you can, have a look at electric avenue's pa2v2, well rated amp at a good price

I just ordered an Sansa Clip Zip and plan on installing rockbox on it. Thanks for the advice doe.
