New Monitor 2014

Hi Crossfire,

Since some of you guys happen to know a lot about pc related stuff, I wanted to ask you which monitor is the best to buy in 2014. I am searching a 120 HZ monitor and my price is around 300 euros, I think your pc has to be good enough to run some of todays monitors so i'll post my setup below (if you need to know more, tell me).

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 TI
Intel ® Core i5-2300 CPU @ 2.80 GHz
8192MB RAM

Thanks in advance.

just go for benq :)
google for nvidia g-sync, new technology
I googled it, but is it a program or a new monitor? And can I use it on this monitor I have atm or explain a bit please :p

It's a chip (more precisely a scaler) in your monitor.
Parent
afaik, its a chip inside a monitor, not sure if u can use it with old monitors, i didnt do that much research myself, but if and when i get a new monitor to replace the motherofall monitors the CRT im 100% gonna go with a monitor that has nvidia g sync technology intergrated in the monitor, simply because of what they advertise and i belive its the next step in the FPS world.

You've convinced me to buy a monitor with g-sync, but as I read I can't buy it because my graphic card doesn't support this new system? (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 TI)
Parent
mhm i just checkd the site aswell and it doesnt have the support for the 550ti card :( i got the same card, the monitor costs around 500dollars with the chip installed but then have to get a gfx card that supports it xD comes out quite expensive...
Parent
True that, I guess the benQ xl 2420t is another viable option then? or you got another awesome monitor for me :D?
Parent
no idea about the "codenames" for benq but i havent heard a single bad thing about their benq's, or hers an idea, go with that asus monitor that support gsync and after a year or two when u wanna upgrade to gsync+new graphics card u send them the monitor (but still have to pay around 100 or 200bucks for the install) and they send it back with the "chip" innit.

my almost black and white 50yr old crt still delivers 120hz np (colours are for pussies)
Parent
But I wonder if that asus is as good as the benq without the g-sync..
Parent
no idea, since im not looking for new monitors atm didnt look into it that much, but from a quick 3sec visit to their site i saw that it has 144hz and probably the same price range as the benq 330-360(might be way off here) pretty sure its "top-end"

but who knows.. maybe the benq will have support for the gsync in the future..
Parent
this is an interesting post,

for those who recommend, could you please explain why?
Thought the same back in my head x)

120Hz BenQ is the best for gaming, i would never buy it since it has a TN panel.
what is a tn panel and whats wrong with it
Parent
think it has not so good colors etc etc.. cant see how you wont have another monitor for image editing etc if it's that important -- and a 120hz for gaming
Parent
Benq (xl2720t or xl2420t) or asus 144hz are the fastest monitor availible on the market.

I personally own a benq xl2720t since today and i have to say its amazing.

TN panel mean if u look from the side, bottom or upper the monitor, you will see like a black screen, eventho it isnt, so you just have to be right in front of the monitor.

The colour are just bad, you have to change the colour value before using it.

On shootmania, the enemys are just more visible than with any monitor i did try (an lg 120hz and a viewsonic 120hz)
Is the color changing easy to do or is there some manual to adjust it?
Parent
its easy to change by yourself.

There is .exe that should do it automaticly for you, but i aint able to get it to work...

Why is everyone recommending the outdated and overpriced benq xl2420t? Silly people.

BenQ XL2411T, save your money, get a better product. It doesn't look as fancy or has some retarded profile switching buttons, but does everything and more the xl2420t does, better even for a whole lot of less moniez.
wird der demnächst mal billiger? :D hab den seit ein paar monaten auf meiner liste, hab gedacht der wird nach weihnachten vielleicht billiger, ist aber seitdem von 277€ auf 305€ hoch :<
Parent
hab den vor nem halben Jahr in England für 220€ bestellt, solangs inner EU bleibt musst keine extra Kosten annen Zoll zahlen.
Parent
ah, das is gut zu wissen^^ 220 wär ein annehmbarer preis, mal schaun ob ich da was finde :D
dankeschööön :p
Parent
amazon 277
Parent
yes, it was 277€, but during the last week the price went to 305€ on amazon (at least in germany)
Parent
Does it require somewat special GPU for it to support?
Parent
Dual Link DVI-D is just about the only requirement.
Parent
so basically any modern GPU will do.
Parent
Thanks Oxy, I think i'll order the BenQ XL2411T, I don't know why nobody else told me this. But I already found the switching buttons pretty damn useless and if it's just better then i will go for that! Can my pc handle it btw?
Parent
Yeah, you'll be fine. Just make sure to use a Dual Link DVI-D cable.
Parent
And you get that when you buy the monitor or where can i get that xD, sorry for my questions but i got no wisdom about this stuff!
Parent
yup= you get that when you but the monitor?
Parent
ok thanks <3 no homo

Dont buy the BenQ XL2420T (or any BenQ), bad quality and the colors are so bad with this monitor, even if you load a good ICC profile to calibrate it. I tested it myself, also i had dead pixels -_-

Go for the ASUS VG248QE (299 €), use the settings and ICC profile posted here

http://pcmonitors.info/reviews/asus-vg248qe

and enjoy the WOW effect when you play the first time with 144 hz. Also use this

http://www.blurbusters.com/zero-motion-blur/lightboost/

to enable lightboost out of the 3D mode and you have the best setup / monitor atm available on the market (for gaming ofc).
