When I booted up my pc yesterday, I found that my internet stopped working. The network adapter is no longer detected and when I look at the ethernet port, I don't see any lights blinking (which is usual when you have a connection).
I tried removing and installing the latest drivers, updating my BIOS, looked in the BIOS if Ethernet was enabled. This all didn't work, so I bought a PCI network card (really need inet asap). Installed it, the lights started blinking on the card when I booted up my pc and connected the internet cable, but when I entered windows nothing was detected. I can't see the card in the device manager, and no network adapters show up at the network centre. Also, when I look for new hardware it can't find anything
I'm clueless on what to do, and I need my internet bad for my study!
Help would be greatly appreciated!

The cable is fine, and the network reception too (several people are using the network). It's really an either driver or hardware related issue, I just can't seem to work out what..
May I add that I now have a temporary solution by connecting an ethernet to usb device. This will not suffice on the long run though, so help would still be greatly appreciated!
