New monitor

I'm looking for a new monitor to replace my old one, was hoping anyone could help me out. I've done some research myself, and currently I'm trying to decide between the following three:

- BenQ XL2411Z
- Iiyama ProLite GB2488HSU-B1
- Asus VG248QE

There might be better ones out there as well, so here's a few of the specs I am looking for:

- 1/2 ms reactiontime
- 120hz (or higher) refresh rate
- around 24"
- around €300

Cheers!

Benq, because benq.
Yeah, so I've heared, arguments would be nice though..
The specs of those three are literally the same, why should I pick Benq over the rest?

Because benq.

Stfu Galiagay
e: damn, should've said Gayliatus

iiyama has no lightboost which lowers monitor input lag pretty much, also benq has lower input lag than asus, g-sync is overrated, its usefull only if u couldnt set same fps as hz, also grows up input lag, not as much as vsync but still. Benq's overbright in dark parts of maps etc works awesoem too.

Samsung SyncMaster 931 BW (butchji)
I currently have a SyncMaster, it's the one I want replaced
e: Yeah, that really didn't help.
Parent
Thanks, could you give me a little more info as to why, though? I've got very little knowledge about this..

Lightboost is a feature from nVidia to enhance 3D performance. But the main reason you might want the lightboost feature is because of the elimination of motion blur it produces. Motion blur is eliminated with a strobed backlight on your LCD display.

Check that picture on the link I've posted above. With lightboost enabled you can witness fast motion on your screen as sharp as it was with the old CRT displays. It's far more fluid than regular 120hz or 144hz. Lightboost supports up to 120hz at the moment (I think).

lightboost 120hz + 1000hz polling rate + maxfps 120 + vsync on = win

Okay, thanks.
One more question though; I've been reading that you can't actually reach 120/144hz with an HDMI, is this true?
Parent
I'm not entirely sure whether there exists HDMI cables that with you could go up to 120hz or not, but I've tried a few HDMIs and could never get there.

You need Dual Link DVI or displayport or minidisplayport connectivity on your gear to get 120/144hz.
Parent
Hmm, I guess I won't be needing to buy a new screen then..
My laptop only has HDMI and VGA/Mini D-SUB :\
Parent
You sure it doesn't have a minidisplayport?

But yeah, there's no point to get a +120hz screen if you can't get it running with that refresh rate.
Parent
Positive!
Perhaps you could help me out finding a better 60hz screen than I am currently using?

E: First one I've come across is this one
BenQ GL2450HE
Parent
hmm haven't really looked into 60hz screens in ages. But you could try to look up some reviews. Obviously you want to have 1080p resolution and a low response time. Also as little ghosting as possible (this effect: http://personal.battleangel.org/wp-content/personal/2011/02/ghosting_lcd2.jpg)

I actually ended up buying that exact same one! Ordered it on Tuesday, was in by Wednesday. Haven't been able to play with it yet though, won't be home for the week :(
Parent
Nais! :D Let me know how it is.

Ideally I need 2, one for gaming one for my photography, but the latter ones are so fucking expensive (easily £1500) so need to find something cheaper!

I use my laptop screen and an extra one. Why don't you look into the Dell UltraSharp? Heard they're great screens, just not for gaming
Parent
i have the BenQ XL2411Z. very gud screen, be sure to get one with Firmware version 2.0 though (need it for lightboost)
got the Asus one which is freakin awesome
get a crt with 120 hz vertical refresh rate :o
i would honestly recomment the dell U2412M.

apart from being the best monitor i used so far, and one of the best sellers in amazon,

it is 1920x1200, which gives you the extra pixels for reading, coding, etc..

thumbs up for this monitor, everyone i recommend it to him was rly grateful!!
Thanks! Unfortunately I won't be needing it. Found out I only have an HDMI and VGA output on my laptop, so more than 60hz is a no-go for me :(

So I'm currently just looking for a better screen than the one I am currently using. Thinking of getting the BenQ GL2450HE

e: This Dell has an 8ms reaction time though, which is frankly too low for gaming. The screen I'm using right now has a 5ms and I'm already noticing slight lags
Parent
you know nothing jon snow...

did you consider to check the input lag?!?!?
of course you didnt.

anyway, good luck. my monitor is still the best, and very good for gaming!
