1st will look soon Jimmy <3
Some of my favourites this year include

Saor
Mournful Congregation
At the Gates
Mors Principium Est
Heidra
Agalloch
Sabaton
Mare Cognitum
Insomnium
Pallbearer
Ne Obliviscaris
Dead Congregation
Furia

Probably missing a few but you know my situation with music :P
Man I still gotta check that Heidra record. Agalloch and At the Gates were so painfully average and below their capabilities, incredibly overhyped records the both of them tbh.

Quite enjoyed ATG as I hadn't heard them for agessss. Not really the top Agalloch record but still pretty biased :P

Still waiting to hear Taake :(
Parent
New Taake was ok. Not amazing, but still worthy. Obviously not on the same level as their best albums though.

Blut Aus Nord is my best discovery in 2014 , tho their old albums are far better than this new one + agreed on At The Gates + Triptykon's new album + Electric Wizard's new album + Septicflesh's new album + Saille's new album +

If you don't know it, give it a listen

Seeing people post these "best of 2014" lists around the interwebs got me thinking that (despite being a self-labelled music nerd) I haven't really listened to much new music this year. However here are some excellent 2014 albums I could think of after doing some digging on my listening history.

Anathema - Distant Satellites (how do you label this? atmospheric almost-rock?)
Foreknown - Ornithology (hip hop)
KYPCK - Imena Na Stene (doom metal)
Solstafir - Otta (post metal or something)

If I'd need to rate them, the order would be: 1) Anathema 2) KYPCK 3) Foreknown 4) Solstafir
Must have missed KYPCK, Solstafir always put out fantastic records! Hopefully see them soon as they'll be playing Germany
Parent
Yeah Solstafir and Anathema were pretty good.

HellHammer's best musicmetal of 2014
And other genres are considered music? l0L
Parent
Honestly for me, that's because metal was by far the strongest genre this year, and also because it's closest to my comfort zone. I'm not terribly picky with genres, but chances are I'll need a way above average record from a genre I generally avoid (let's say pop) for me to add it here (my #15 for example).

afx - Mt Saint Michel + Saint Michael's Mount @33'rpm (http://is.gd/UhdEDD)
doom/sludge or no go. Doomsters unite! Some death in your list is awesome too though.

Check this band out HellHammer.
Yep I know them, they are pretty great, very similar to Thou (my #16).

This is my AOTY crossfire journal cycle:

1) make journal
2) find out the next day that a mega important release flew right under my radar
3) realize how dumb I am for making AOTY journals

Anyway, this is my real album of the year folks:

Sweet, will check it out.

What did you think of the new Accept album?
I'd give it a solid 4*, been listening to it a bit more lately, good music to just chill to playing cs :p
Parent
Loved the new Accept, you know exactly what you're gonna get with them. Quality, albeit standard teutonic heavy metal.
Parent
True true. Thought they had some great riffs and solos on this record, some epic tracks and generally awesome heavy metal. Great stuff for parties :)))
Parent
Awww yiss, got stuff to drink on during holidays, thanks!

EDIT: Haven't listened to new music that much this year, but this was definately the most played one for me,

Oh right, of course, nearly forgot, hit me really hard,
