Buying a car, part2: The choice

Wanna say thanks to all the people helping me with constructive ideas on my previous journal.

Here is the car I picked to buy:

The final price we came down to is 1700 euros.

Any suggestions :)?

I should say that the biggest problem the car has, are some scratches on the caroserie, made by someone with a good heart.

Also the brakes from back wheels are a little bit old, will have to be changed.

Other than this, he said if I decide to buy, he will fix the rest of the small issues.

I mean, after all is a 15 year old car.

Also what I would like to know is a cheap insurance in Belgium. Here the car insurances are total madness. Who s Belgian and owns a car and pays from his or her own pocket, knows what I m talking about

I use ethias as insurance company, so does Sander. You have the same car as him btw. I got the golf VI 1.6 blue motion! Just got the cheapest insurance & dont wast money on fixing the scratches. A car is just a way to go from point A to B. and even now you bought it you already lost money on it :P
Actually we are for once thinking alike. Yes, I do not intend to fix the scratches. At least not in Belgium. If the price would be ok, I would do it in Romania, when I go in holiday. About loosing money yap....I give this morrocan 1700, and the next day I m lucky if I can sell it for 1200.

About insurances...so how the fuck is this working in Belgium? First year the most expensive, than it drops every year...BNP, to whom I have most of my deals, are crazy expensive. They ask first year 940 euros. Now there is also a matter of what kind of situations does the insurance cover.

BTW, how much you pay per year?

since I have a brand new car, well from 2012. I had full omniun in the beginning was like 2K / year. But now I got the small omnium for like 800 a year. For that car you just need the minimum (BA) should be around 500-700 cuz your older & stuff. They look at the years without an accident & the years you have your license etc. This is my 6th year without having an accident so the price dropped really well for me. bonus malus should be about 6 now!

holy shit how expensive insurances :o i got the best possible in my car and its around 1000/year with 25% bonus
Parent
when you are young you pay a lot in Belgium, because the accident rate of young drivers is really high.

835 bij federale

All right, I can not present them my history from Romania, and here I never had car, or insurance so this would be the first year. Is this insurance you told me about, Ethias, cheaper than BNP?
Parent
For me it is, best for you is to do some research, show the offer you got from BNP to ethias, receive a better offer, then go back to BNP since its your bank I bet & they will even offer you something better. etc
Parent
Good ideea man :D, if this shit works, I buy you a beer. The cheapest one of course :P

Meh i would recommend if u are going with golf, go with 1.6 engine, the 1.4 are weird, don't really have same "bullet proof" way as 1.6 or 1.9 TDI have.
1.9 tdi all the wayyyyyy
Parent
Depends on the daily driving u are doing, if hes not driving enough, waste of cash on buying diesel since all he will have is cost with it.
Parent
Most of them are shit anyway, but from the 4 1.9's I've had I couldn't complain. They (diesel engines) were just a cunt to work with most of the time when I was still working in a garage. But then again, most cars that were 2010+ were looked after worse than early 00's x)
Parent
1.9 @ 130hp on my Passat, it's all you need for urban driving
Parent
explain bullet proof please :O?

Real men drive this

159000 km? should check this range with some prooffed mechanic.

QuoteAlso the brakes from back wheels are a little bit old, will have to be changed.

It is not a big problem in car like this. U should change them but not asap for sure. I suppose u r an usual driver, not some romanian lewis hamilton.

Best of luck
He will do the control technique and together with it also the Carpass.
Parent
ye for this old car someone prolly "tuned" the km's
Parent
Yes, but with the carpass document, normally this things can t be scammed

1.4 is quite bad engine. Not eco at all. 55kw, hopefully theres 45 left. As fellow members said go 1.9tdi, best diesel engine you can find... eco, actually quite powerful if u chip it. Other than that golf is good car. Only thing is that it's small as hell.
