Edit
Oh look, I'm in the Netherlands for 3 weeks and I'm already using cancer randomly in sentences.
I absolutely loved the Saor record, had that preordered too (big cock up with the press so still waiting on the CD/shirt). Insomnium's record was incredible too, will hear it live in January too :3
Also biased towards 40 watt sun as Patrick Walker, so... <3 Be'lakor's album was nice to listen to, though didn't top 'of breath and bone' for me after waiting a while for it.
Will go through some more soon and maybe edit my post, Mistur's album was nice too.
Big mention to A.B. Original tho <3
Deathspell Omega, Bolzer, Dead Congregation and Gorguts, 4 bands I expected would tear shit up (along with some others I can't even remember right now), all released subpar material this year. Yeah, Deathspell Omega is in my top 15 and rightfully so, but after releasing probably the greatest black metal record of the 10's and being one of the top dogs to rise from the vast metal muck the last decade, their last record was underwhelming to say the least, especially if you consider the amount of hype surrounding it. It's relentless and uncompromising, but lacks the nuance and overwordly dissonant melodies that came out of nowhere on Paracletus, all the things that made that album so incredible.
Vektor, Moonsorrow, Zhrine and Mithras really saved the day here. None could touch the #1 spot anyway though.
Why couldn't Emptiness release their new album this year instead of January 2017 for fucks sakes.
