Hey guise,

I would like to invest some of my next Swiss phd student salary into a new monitor. Swiss phd student salary means I have basically no budget, so price range should be around 150 euro. my gpu is a gtx 1060

any suggestions?

Cheers,
olga aka znuund

edit: this one would be reduced price atm:

and this one would be its cheap brother:
https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/asus-vs247hr-24-1920x1080-monitor-263148

would you recommend against the cheap one? If I can save some cash its always good.

Schau dich lieber nach einem gebrauchten XL2420T oder anderen 120Hz Monitoren um. Mit ein wenig Glück findest du vielleicht sogar einen mit 144
wie findest du den asus-vg248qe?

Absolut in Ordnung

cool danke, kalli! dann werd ich mir den bestellen.

I don't think you can find anything that is much better than those if you want 75Hz.. If you want something better you need more money.
i can check prices in slovenia, could be cheaper than in your rich country.
shipping would even out the saving I would make I guess :)

but ty!
Parent
i think it will end up being more expensive (excluding shipping costs) since we literally pay taxes for the taxes
so i usually end up buying from Germany or Netherlands, regarding the actual topic id say double ur saving and go for benq xl2411z because
i did the same and had a budget in mind, got the monitor delivered, returned it within 60minutes, walked home later that day with a gaming monitor the one above, simply the "cheap" shit doesn't give u the quality u want i want
Parent
doubling up the savings would not be in relation to how much I am playing games, where the quality of the graphics really makes the difference. I don't know if you play battlegrounds but in this game I can't see anything if I am in fast motion. I guess most of it is training and learning the game.

I will opt for the a bit more expensive asus-vg248qe, which is on sale at the moment.
Parent
No, not playing those games xd just cs quake and et.
Asus should be good enough.

Shipping costs would be the least of your concern. Don't have anything of value shipped to Switzerland ever, unless you want to get screwed over royally by VAT and vague administration costs by dishonest couriers. Or unless you're absolutely 100% sure the seller is picking up the tab.

Also, toppreise.ch is your friend.

And where do you live exactly? One of the plus sides of living in Switzerland is that you can import up to 300chf per person tax free, as long as you import it personally and physically (you have to be able to show whatever you bought at the border). Not sure if it's allowed with a student's permit though. But if you live close to the border, there should be more than enough companies that make it super easy to reclaim VAT.
Parent
I rarely order from another country only if after making all the calculations, it gets cheaper. and mostly it won't. also it includes for me, that I have to do extra work to get money back etc.
permit-wise this would not be a problem.

edit: and thank you for the toppreise.ch hint! very helpful!
