Installing ET in 2018 - Mein Exp

It is easy to locate the installer since Crossfire is neat enough to show the Link to the Tutorial. It would be even easier if the direct download link were available on the side of the page everywhere seeing how much unused space there is (design reasons?) or something because as a beginner I wouldn't know where to look actually.

I installed the game which is supposed to have minimizer included which it doesn't (found it, got it's own folder now :o). Alt-Tabbing isn't possible so I have to run Windowed mode, which is ok but I also downloaded etpro and apparently nothing has changed as I have to do vid_restart everytime I load the mod. The first server I connected to, HBC, was playing missile I think so I downloaded that, with the other maps I'd deem necessary but there wasn't an actual pack but rather Firefox would only let me save Link As and would show the .pk3s as text documents while they were perfectly fine once downloaded.

While on HBC I changed a few commands like fov but in the end I noticed that my fps were uncapped and being unstable under 333 so my idea was to change the graphics settings from High to Low so I could run 333. Unfortunately then the server kicked me for 3 minutes because of "r_allowextensions 0".

Ugh needless to say a newcomer would be completely lost and after 9 years being spoonfed accessible out-of-the-box shooters like they are avi on Steam ET feels nostalgic but weird at the same time. Even though I've never forgotten any of the console commands and know my way around, time spent on ET speaks for itself this way, I can't help but wonder.

Other than that the game seems to have aged well. Like fine wine. For Gentlemen. I'm really old now.
