Downloading

Hi people

I got some nice questions for you guys.
I used to download via a private ftp server from a friend of mine. He has a glasfiber connection 10/10mbit ( going to 100/100 soon ) but he's never online. His server is offline and he doesnt have much time to download for me.

So now I want to start downloading my self. I have no idea where to start and where to look. Everyone has different opinions.

Things i'm looking for are:

It should be easy ( I'm not so good with networking and stuff )
I dont have time to look 10 times a week to see if something is updated so I can download one file from 9999999 files.
It should be quite fast.
It doesnt have to be free ( but I dont want to pay 1000 euro's a month either :P )

Can you people help me out with this and give me some help where to start as a complete download nub??
