refresh rate problem

buddy of mine has a big problem with et hz.
he always played with 100 hz, but now ET sets it to 85 ...
his monitor can do 120.
his cfg and windows settings are 100 (refreshlock too) but ET forces it to 85!! its possible to set 75 or less, but not more than 85.if he sets 100,120 or more its automaticly switched back to 85 in ET.
wtf! only thing he changed: installed sp2 weeks ago.
if he sets windows resolution to r_mode 6, does same with ET,sets both to 100 hz: STILL 85 !
anybody got an idea?
and no he doesnt use swapinterval
