ET Voice Recognition

QuoteLook on top of your PC, or right in front of you, is there a microphone there?
Do you have TeamSpeak or do you use the voice commands for the bots in Unreal 2004?
Have you ever used Microsoft Speech Recognition to write on Microsoft Word?

What if I told you there was a way to have your own voice control almost any action in Enemy Territory, from quick chats to switching your weapons and reloading?

Well I'm here to tell you that after some hard work, and a little delay from my online comic, I have created a complete beta VAC Software profile for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

What it does is let you use Microsft Speech Recognition to issue commands to the game using only your voice.

All you need is the VAC System program, your voice, and a microphoine (hopefully a good one) and not nearly as much memory as it would take to remember all the keyboard combos for all those quick chats.

The VAC System program can be found here: http://www.dwvac.com

Using this program I was able to create the code necessary to use voice commands issued into your microphone to activate all the avaiable quick chats (including those only accessable through the console) and various other actions such as weapon switching and reloading. In the future I will also include other common phrases that you otherwize would have to type out manually.

Although the use of voice commands versus manual usage through the keyboard as origionally intended has many advantages, especially for those who can not get a good microphone. But as far as advantages go it is easier to remember an actual phrase to activate a command versus using keyboard combinations, but using the VAC System is not slower or faster than practaced manual input for a command.

The idea for this came from the extreeme urge to be able to communicate to my teammates faster than the normal keyboard, to be able to yell "Grenade" right as I heard it thrown instead of fumbeling for the keys and actually saying it after the event was over. Then I saw how Unreal 2004 had taken Speech Recognition to the next level by creating bots who reacted to voice imput, and even the rumors of Unreal 2007 (which is still in development) taking Voice Recognition further than before with its interaction with AI programs. Although I cannot offer bot support I can however lift some of the barriers in player too player communication in Enemy Territory.

For those of you who do with to know, if this project becomes successful and a final version is released, complete with cutomization guidelines, I do believe I will contact Omni Bots and see if it can be expanded to include AI actions and commands.

You can find Omni bots at: www.omni-bot.de)

I would extreemly appreciate any comments and suggestions pertaining to this project. I encourage only positive and constructive comments as negative and aggressive feedback will not be recognized and will not deter me from completion of this project.

If you have any questions or concerns do not be afraid to ask, there are no stupid questions here as I realize many do not have interest or knowledge into the technical aspects of this project.

This is IsaakJohnson (Fluoride_Sting) saying "Thanks for your time."
