Mousepad/Mouse friction?

Ok, well i bought a funpad f30.r a while back, but its been under a year for sure. Probably 5 months or something around there. I also have an MX518 which ive had from the day it came out.

Now the problem is, recently they have developed a lot of friction when i move my mouse over the surface. I dont particularly want to buy a new mouse AND a new pad - so i bought skates thinking they would help - and they didn't.

So what i need to know is, have the feet on my mouse worn down, so the full mouse is touching the surface of my pad and creating this friction, or has the surface of the funcpad worn away, and that is causing the friction?

Any help would be appreciated.

(if it is the mouse, should i buy another mx518, or revert back to mx510? or if its the pad, what mousemat would you guys recommend?

or are there any cheaper solutions to buying a new mouse even?)
