x264 and slow processor

Recently I have been complaining about the use of this "new" x264 codec in frag movies. The reason has been that I only have a five year old P4 1.8 GHz processor and the new movies has been lagging for me.
I just discovered, some minutes ago, that by switching of postprocessing in ffdshow settings made a significant improval of the lagging frame rate.
I do not even know why this setting was on, but I guess it is some standard setting from the developers at ffdshow.
Maybe it will help you, if you have problems with the x264 codec, please give me some feedback :)
