Hey... I'm the friend involved in an earlier journal. Thanks for the replies. I would like to comment couple of points though:
Theese UK sites seem to have some lower prices than those you've recommended: RedCracker and Laptops Direct Would you rather recommend NOT buying from them? Why?
Now, I am having quite a hard time choosing what laptop to buy... I think I will be giving up playing ET :( because I should really not exceed £600 (preferably even £500)
After some VERY long intense searching and comparison the list looks something like this:
- HP Compaq nx6110 - Pentium M 735 1.7 GHz - 4.5 hours - only 1024 x 768 - DDR
- Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V3505 - Intel Core Duo T2050 1.6GHz - 3.5 hours - DDR2
- HP Compaq nx6325 AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 1.6 GHz - 4.2 hours - no DVDRW (only combo) - DDR2
- Acer Aspire 5002WLMi AMD Turion ML30 1.6GHz - 3 hours - DDR
They all have 512MB RAM and 60 GB HDD.
What do you think? Also, what do you know about the CPUs? Core Duo, Pentium M, Turion, Turion X2... Do they REALLY make a difference, or it would be visible only if you want to compile the Linux Kernel (play ET) or render 3dsMax scenes?
I will end this entry in a 'local' manner by saying...
Cheers!
