id Software confirms Quake live for QuakeCon 2009

Videogame company id Software has now confirmed QuakeLive for QuakeCon 2009.

id Software will hold its annual QuakeCon event from August 13-16, 2009, in Dallas, Texas at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.Described by the developer as "the world's ultimate video game festival and party", QuakeCon 2009 will, as always, be free. The event will host North America's largest bring-your-own-computer LAN party, according to id, with places for almost 3,000 gamers to hook their systems up and play on the company's network.

There'll be "big-money pro tournaments", featuring id Software's new free-to-play, web-based Quake Live, and the event will also offer plenty in the way of entertainment for those that don't want to take their computer, with "contests, entertainment, announcements, panel discussions, and parties" each day.

There'll also be plenty of gaming and technology companies exhibiting upcoming products in the 35,000 square foot venue.
Official Info
Online registration for QuakeCon will begin at 9:30pm EST / 6:30pm PST on March 6, 2009. Participation in the BYOC, tournaments, exhibits, conferences, and all other events is free of charge.

The Hilton Anatole is now taking room reservations for QuakeCon 2009 through their custom QuakeCon reservation page or through their toll-free reservations number, 1-800-HILTONS. nice man :)
Parent
Would be awesome if et's there!

Thing is that pressure should be upon it these coming weeks/months if it's going to be a succes :)
Parent
I wish you good luck with your chance less attempt!
Parent
would be nice :>
No ET no fun :(
need RTCW2 till then or ET
ET and Montreal's game for same weekend and I am in!
nice :). but QL needs some mode, something like CPMA!
i bet they'll do smth like that
Parent
I bet they won't.
Parent
because you're very skilled in this mod? (bunnyhopping etc.) ;D

QuoteDuring the QuakeCon 2008 keynote speech, John Carmack stated that Quake Live would have no mod support but will be continually updated and may include officially approved user-made maps.

quakeworld FTW!
Parent
Not really could also beat anyone in vq3 :D:D:D but QL really needs promode.
Parent
WE WANT RTCW2
rofl hell no, If I were there would be nothing but Wolf ET, Wolfenstein & RTCW :D

I simply meant that I'll be lobbying in every way I can for ET
<3

But do it together with Toss and Adacore.
Parent
And with Rhand as well.
Parent

NAIZ
ql needs promode
not rly, maybe quakecon needs promode but then again dreamhack showed how skilled cpm players rly are
Parent
How skilled is that?
I don't know much about Q3, but I'd say they're quite skilled on the overall scale, given that pod1 (a good CPM player) gave a close fight with fox (a good VQ3 player with some CPM practice), though fox won (in CPM). Not sure if that's what you're implying.
Parent
ofc they are skilled on the overall scale but after seeing how vo0 a cpm /god/ failed in vq3, but mostly how cpm players got a major lan event and the winner is a vq3 player.
Parent
Vo0 just said VQ3 isn't his game, a good topic if you're interested is this:

Parent
i havent watched the demos yet, but i saw fox vs. hal and fox and fox was great. also he was great in q4 and qw, and prolly other games i dont know about. dont see why a player who is good in vq3 cant be good in other games.

tho i doubt he would win if jonathan vo0 or rat showed up, after some practice
Parent
ofcourse a player can be good in other games but /winning/ a tourney against real cpm players
also the fact that cpm god vo0 failed in vq3.

edit: also don't get me wrong, i do think cpm is better than vq3 and more fun, but for big (LAN) tourneys i think vq3 is better and requiers more skill

one would hope wolfenstein would be out by then, so no need for et -_-
I really hope quake wars isn't there and ET or RTCW (less likely) takes its place instead. What a god-awful, boring game to play and watch.
well nice, but its not in my area of interest
one would have the presumption they will launch/showcase wolfenstien, however not have an actual tourny for it.

that's my guess :S

for it to be successful @ tourny level would need be released at least 6months prior -_-''
Well I'm guessing that Threewave more or less finished a MP, but then it got scrapped when Endrant took over, so I'm not counting on anything Wolfenstein beyond some kind of showcase. Besides, the big thing they're advertising with Wolf is SP, not MP, so unless that drastically changes with a surprise announcement, again no big reason for Wolf to be played at QuakeCon.
Parent
From what I gather threewave were contracted to take the MP only so far, so I assume they did like some basic level design and mainly focused on coding aspects of the MP game and getting things to work and then testing out gameplay concepts on the basic maps like various objective types or something. Then Endrant are brought in later to create the proper MP maps we will be playing.
Parent
Interesting, hope you're right!
Parent
Yeah, remember the quake wars tourneys during the beta stages and then a week after it was released or whatever, was complete waste of time and ultimately killed the game, if they waited for pro mod it may be bit better but they took several months to release SDK so no pro mod could be made, only silly rules that couldn't be enforced.
Parent
the players like Quake 3 more than Quakelive because Quakelive sux
don't all new games suck :)
Parent
Ironic comment, intentionally or not. Quake Live is basically a recreation of Quake 3 with a bit better graphics, and that's exactly what you want RTCW2 to be.
Parent
weapons damage has changed in ql, thats why some q3 players dont like it.
Parent
Exactly what Cachucha said. Damage is different for each weapon pretty much... and include some more weapons like the hand held minigun and that mine shooting gun.

As much as I LOVE watching pro quake tournies live... I'm more interested in what I'll be playing in haha... RtCW2 plz. Wake me up when they announced RtCW2 beta at qcon... not another ETQW beta3 tournament.
Parent
Yeah, but none of that will be used in comp, and weapon balance is just evolution. You can't get any closer to the original than that, except by just recompiling the original Quake 3. Point being that RTCW2 will be different, there's no point hoping for any different. Agreed on the last point, if RTCW2 is any good.
Parent
A great time and event to launch QuakeLive! We're really looking forward to seeing how this perennial favorite fares in the free-to-play waters.
Gimme mah monii for 2k8 first, faggot americans
