MW2 @ i38 - Disasterous

Just a day ago it was reported that Modern Warfare 2 smashed sales records all across the globe in a matter of hours. The most anticipated game of the year had certainly got off to a great start but at the Newbury Racecourse hundreds of gamers would beg to disagree. Advertised as the first ever Modern Warfare 2 tournament in the world, this would be the first of many competitive Modern Warfare 2 tournaments. Held at the famous i-series LAN, organizers Multiplay were confident that this was going to be a success story from the start. Signing a deal with Activision months ago to hold this tournament, the community was geared up for the prospect of a great competitive game and a decent prize purse.

Today, however, at the second day of action in Newbury, we couldn't be further from the truth. After Activision's announcement that there would be no lean, console and dedicated servers in the game, the tone was set and it became quite clear that Activision has little to no interest in supporting the PC community. That fact has become even clearer this tournament as Activision has failed on all fronts. They have yet to announce a prize purse for a tournament already in motion and failed to notify people of an age restriction until a week before the tournament, leading to several teams travelling to the event with players under 18, thus being banned from playing in the tournament. Even players travelling from Finland and spending hundreds of pounds coming over were refused from playing due to the age restrictions in place. In direct contrast with this is the Activision booth where people from all ages are invited to try the game both on XBOX360 and PC.

More controversy in the MW2 tournament here at i38 in Newbury

The Modern Warfare 2 tournament has been a complete mishap this weekend and now even more problems are taking place.

Both Element and Team Infused have been removed from the tournament for having under-age players in it. Yesterday the admins went around and checked that everyone had a white band, but when a more thorough check was carried out today on anyone who looked under-age, it was found that players from both teams were not 18 yet.

Team Infused were sat comfortably at the top of Group D and looking forward to pushing on. But unfortunately for them, the plot to get raivez a white wrist band (over 18s) did work as the admins found out he was in fact just 16. Element were accused last night and today have been found to have an under-age player.

Reason Gaming were down and out of the tournament this morning, but it looks like the admins are going to try and see if they can get them back in and actually play some games. The Reason players weren't able to play due to their PCs not running MW2 but apparently that has been fixed. We will keep you informed about whether they will get back in.

It's a pitty the organizing of this event for MW2 was so poor :/
Can't blame the organizers for the shit Activision threw at them.

Seeing as they kept getting blue screens, they should have been able to test that before the lan started -_-

QuoteThe Reason players weren't able to play due to their PCs not running MW2

Huh?
Bahahahahhahaahhah FUCKING RAPED
I'd set the whole fuckin building on fire if i would spend hundreds of euros for a flight to the LAN just to sit there being told i can't play because im <18...

However it's not really unexpected that the whole mw2 tournament failed... i mean... it's Activision...
Just for the record, Reason did go forth in the tournament, and didn't drop out after the two forfeits
Haha great success! :D
MW2 for PC is already DEAD xD
Such an old pic but makes me chuckle every time!
