BRINK Video Round-up

image: newbrinhn

Further gameplay videos revealing the mysteries of Brink have been appearing all over the internet since Sainted's original gameplay news item. If you haven't been keeping an eye on the journals and comments, now is a time for you to catch up with everything Brink.

Important notes: Richard Ham (Rahdo on Crossfire) has been commenting on the Splash Damange forums stating that there have been a lot of changes to Brink. All these videos are "really old" to a point where it is "painful" for Splash Damage themselves to watch. Read the quotes below for further information.

Quote by Richard HamFor the E3 demo, we were kind of cheating and had a medium sized guy (so the demo could use a wider range of weapons), but with small body climbing (so we could show more climbing). So don't judge that video as final movement speeds And the same is true about that crazy pistol bob, which has been fixed (also, our shadows are much smoother now too, though Arnout would have to go into all the fancy details about how and why. I just know they're not ugly anymore)

And don't worry, the smart button is 100% optional. As has been mentioned here in the past, if you prefer to jump/sprint/slide/crouch/climb/vault manually, you can do so, in some cases to slightly improved effect

Quote by Richard HamYup, it is really old. Kind of painful for us to watch now, thing have come along a lot since then, as you can imagine...

Quote by Richard Hamyeah, paul walks aroudn ALOT in the FoM video. I think he only ever runs very briefly, for very short sprints. The new video that came out today should probably have some more, longer sprints to give you guys a better feel for speed (I haven't watched it yet, still dl'ing the HD one). Also, i think he tend to use iron sighting ALOT, which is a shame because you can see how relatively tight the spread is for most weapon, compared to other games out there. Plus that iron sight on the SMG (called the Kross) is really old and crappy, blocking your view way too much. It has been replaced

Quote by Richard Hamwhen you've got a pistol equipped, your other hand is reserved for the knife, for instant melee kills instead of the normal melee knockdowns you can do when you're holding two handed weapons (by hitting them with the butt of your rifle).

Nice post, interesting!
"All these videos are "really old"" - now why do I have this funny feeling that this is almost exactly what has been told about Wolfenstein while it was in developement? o_O
wtf! what have SD to do with wolfenstein?

Nothing. It's just that I somewhat don't believe to such phrases before they say it with a small bonus - video footage which shows it's changed ...

The videos are from the same version of the game as has been shown on all other presentations. It was in Cologne, in England, at Quakecon and I would carefully guess that it is more than half a year old.

-meele
ye leaning will add more flexibility in combat. but y -melee? melee the way they said is nice....knife in one hand (mouse2) and pistol in other hand (mouse1)...isnt it nice instead of having melee bound to some other key?

=-)

(and no, i can't seem to get enough of them)

btw. about Video 6 and the Granade Launcher (which worried me).
Quote by Rahdothe GL was purposefully made way overpowered for the demo just to make Paul look a little more bad ass (I'm surprised how often people fail to notice that we also made him invincible and gave him infinite ammo, just to ensure the flow of the demo doesn't get messed up). Don't worry, in the real game, they should be pretty well balanced against all the normal hitscan guns :-)

:)

awsome summary btw beggin with the rahdo quotes
makes me wanna know what happens next!

Who is developing Brink? What have they done previously?
Brink is being developed by UK-based studio Splash Damage in partnership with Bethesda Softworks®. Splash Damage previously created the critically acclaimed Wolfenstein™: Enemy Territory® for id® Software and most recently developed the #1 PC hit Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars®.
Oh boy this made me smile
It was the top selling PC game in the US for a few weeks
