Useful xfire LAN info

Many of you wonder about how to get to the xfire Lan, which is going to be held on the 2nd and 3rd of september 2006, and about places to sleep, so I've lined up some information for everyone as to not spam the entire site with numerous journals of questions. If you have more questions after reading this, ask them here and I will try to update this news item with the answers.

The Location
image: 439833-Cubic_houses_Kubus_woningen-RotterdamAs you all know the location of the Xfire Lan is The Game Syndicate, or TGS for short. The venue is quite easy to recognize since it's located underneath the famous Yellow CubeHouses.

KEEP IN MIND! This lan is NOT BYOC, so do NOT bring your own computer with you since there is simply no room for it.

Getting There

It's quite easy to reach by public transportation. All of the possibilities (train, metro, tram, bus) can be taken to reach Station Blaak.

Train On any station in Holland there are signs with the railroad tracks and their schedules on them, so no matter where you come from by train, find the route to Station Blaak or to Rotterdam Central Station and take a bus, metro or tram from there. Easiest would be though to simply take the train to Station Blaak itself.

Bus The Bus number that travels from Rotterdam Central Train Station towards Station Blaak is number 48. You pass about 4 or 5 stops and get out at Blaak.

Metro From Rotterdam Central Train Station you go down to the metro's and take the Blue Erasmus Line. Two stops further you get out. This stop is called Beurs. Here you switch to the Red Caland Line. Get the one that either goes towards Ommoord, Nesselande or Capelle a/d IJssel. Make sure you do NOT take it towards Spijkenisse because that's absolutely the wrong way!

Tram
The Tram number that travels from Rotterdam Central Train Station towards Station Blaak is Number 21. Same as with the Bus, you pass about 4 or 5 stos and get out at Blaak.

Staying there
There are tons of Hotels and Hostels in Rotterdam and I've taken a few that are worth mentioning.

First of is the Savoy Hotel.
It's the one closest to the Venue, however it is a bit more expensive. Perhaps this is a good one to choose if you are going with a larger group and are eligable for a group-discount.

A much cheaper option however is to stay at a hostel. Below I've also listed four hostels that are rather close to the venue and have good ratings. All cost about 20 to 25 euros a night, which is a pretty good deal already, but inform for group discounts anyway!

Hostel Boat the Clipper:
About a 5 minute walk (if that) to the venue.

The stayokay:
About a 15 to 20 minute walk from the venue.

The Room:
Also about a 15 to 20 minute walk

If there is anything else you want to know, just ask and I'll update where I can.
