It is with great pleasure that I can today announce the expansion of the Crossfire Challenge series with the addition of the Crossfire Intel Challenge Malaysian edition. Running on the same dates as CIC7 in Enschede the Malaysian edition will feature CoD4, CS & Quakelive as its primary games.
The event will be held in the city of Petaling Jaya, Selangor at the Blitzone Cyber Cafe with over 140 Gaming specification PC's across the 5th to the 7th of March. The event is expecting to draw in over 50 teams across its various game titles and will be the first Crossfire Challenge to take place outside of The Netherlands. Over the coming weeks you can expect to see more integration of the event into Crossfire.
We have partnered with experienced Malaysian gaming event organisers (Electronic Sport Professionals, ESP), whom were partly responsible for a number of successful events in the past (participated being marshals, crew and/or tournament organizers - although not as a company) for WCG, WGT & ESWC Qualifiers who will be charged with what could be the beginning of a regular event in Malaysia. The expansion of the Crossfire Challenge to include Intel as a title sponsor has brought with it renewed expansion opportunities for the future and the option to run the Malaysian Challenge was one that I couldn’t turn down. Though it should be stated that the operation of the Malaysian edition has no standing on the operation of the Dutch event nor the budget for it.
I grabbed a statement from Brian Chan, event organiser of the new CIC7 Malaysian Edition:
I hope that the Crossfire Community will see this an exciting opportunity and demonstrates the continued potential of the Challenge brand and will see this as a sign of even bigger things to come! There will be 3 more CIC7 announcements this week all related to additional prizing for the Dutch event!
CS1.6 on the other hand has seen over 40 teams with a minimum of 32 teams in Malaysia itself, with a total of over 60 around SEA.
I hope the year end didnt effect the teams too much, but i hope this event will jump start the year over here :)
Regards,
Brian
You might see europeans flying to Malaysia for RM 388 -> Manchester to Kuala Lumpur.
Thats 60 Euros btw.
Besides, our prizes are a small fraction of what your prizes are in Euro. So there isnt a real comparison.
The idea is to : in the future, have a qualifier in either location and eventually meet in a grand finals in either location for the combined total prize pot :D
asians love that game for some reason
:)
they call themselves "troll" and think theyre funny - dont even bother talking to them
In my country, their called "bodoh".
It is however, a muslim country :D
But let me guess with your name you must be somewhere from Singapore or are you full-blooded malaysian?
lol
so is it expected that at CIC8 also the ET tournament will be organized in Malaysia :D ?
hm....
good luck with it tosspot ;)
good job stu
Well done!
Assembly.
Too bad the only games seem to be Guitar Hero and CSS
Pretty sure that LAN would not have teams from finland only..
+ there is Dreamhack in Sweden like 2 times per year.
Who will represent crossfire over there? :)
but why move cod4 to malaysia? is it that big outside of europe, except for america? dont think it will be so much easier for americans to get to malaysia than to europe? and haven't some of the cod4 teams that were planning to play in enschede already booked some of their traveling expenses? :O
i expect that there will be cod4 teams there, just wondering whether they are any close skillwise to american/european teams? would rather have expected cs in malaysia next to quake?
but well done anyway
While the situation may be different for already established games in Korea like Starcraft and to a lesser extent CS, for games with not that big of a following holding something further away from established hubs are not detrimental at all.
That being said, ESP as a company has a -lot- of experience running events, and I can vouch for many of my personal friends in the company who have a very honest drive to grow e-Sports not only in Malaysia, but in South East Asia and Asia as a whole (Korea obviously doesn't need help here ;P)
That also being said, as mentioned by Brian CoD4 is actually phenomenal in Malaysia as a single nation due in large part to the work the past year by ESPGL (www.espgl.com), and I feel that this event, and all subsequent events are a step up in both scale, organization and arguably most importantly prize pots and support/sponsorship. :P This can only benefit the local CoD4 scene in the long run and see the growth of many more serious teams.
Of course, I'm also hoping that with CC being a recurring event here that ET (and to a lesser extent QL which isn't that well-known here) take off locally.
i was under the false impression that cod4 was being moved to malaysia instead of holding two seperate cod4 tournaments. i will not try to act as if i know anything at all about the cod4 scene in asia or in malaysia in particular, was merely wondering at the fact that, seeing as most of the upper class of cod4 teams would benefit more from a tournament in enschede rather than malaysia, it was being moved ..
Its hidden somewhere in there!
It's what would happen if Jackie Chan adopted me! <3
Should be a cool addition!
Funniest remark ever :D
Call of Duty's inclusion wasn't really an "inclusion" per say, it was a needed boost for the local community. As seeing EU was starting to work on something much larger after the release of MW2, i thought it would be prudent for Asia to not only follow, but to let EU know that they have players here as well.
Lets just say its one step in closer to "world domination" for stuart :)
As for why Malaysia; why not?
Its much cheaper for any other asian country to come here, its generally also the center of South East Asia, which is why the cost to come over is pretty equal if they do intend to come here. My job is to ensure that the event is enticing for them to at least think about it, the rest will be up to them :)
Aside from this, CF should get a good boost in publicity which in turn would benefit the event as a whole in the future :)
It will be up to how large the event is. If the event is run in conjunction with a major event - such as PC fair by pikom for example, its a possibility to approach airlines.
Again, this is still a long way ahead from being implemented.
So we also need some more time for even more ET teams to sign up ;o
Lets hope it'll be a big succes.
Crossfire/CIC for world domination woohoo!
