Alienware Backpacking Challenge, $5000

Heaven Media are proud to announce "The Alienware Backpacking Challenge", a two-month competition that will see four gamers, selected from hopeful applicants from across Europe, to travel all over the continent.

Kitted out with an Alienware M11x laptop, a video camera, and a set of camping equipment, the four lucky participants will blog their way over mountains and seas, crossing borders and time zones, completing challenges before going up against each other in a weekly public vote.

With thousands of hopefuls expected to apply, competition will be fierce among the budding bloggers, and in the Alienware M11x they will find the perfect partner, providing the latest laptop technology in a stylish eleven-inch package, ideal for the long road ahead.

Ever wondered how many countries it’s possible to visit in a day on a budget? The best way to enjoy a high-adrenaline session of gaming while travelling at 300kmh, or while looking up to the heavens at an altitude of 3,500 feet? Wonder no more! For the entire two-month period, the four contestants will be blogging, video-blogging, tweeting and uploading pics, all hosted on their own individual site within the competition web site.

As each week goes past, everyone at home following their journeys will be asked to vote on that week’s winner, based on performance in the challenges, imagination and creativity, and blogging talent among other criteria. But these votes aren’t just for a weekly pat on the back. When the four meet up at the end of the eight weeks, at GamesCom in Cologne, only one of them can be crowned the Alienware Backpacker of the Year 2010, taking home the cash prize of $5,000!

Kicking off at Disneyland Paris, during the Electronic Sports World Cup, the bloggers will be released into the wild on June 30th, having received their first challenge, giving them until August 22nd to win the public over to their side.

you can dodge army like other finnish players

one example: squall
Parent
And you are a moron?
Parent
you can get out in 6 months like other finnish players

one example: slarto
Parent
And you are a moron?

Maybe I want to benefit from army?
Parent
Can't think of any other benefits than driving the C/E-license and I'm not sure if it's possible anymore.
Parent
reserve officer training corps aka ROTC maybe? (no, I'm no ordinary nerd :DDDDD) And yes truck license is drivable for free at the army in that driving thingy, and you can do it in half years + I don't need such thing (prolly) / I can drive it myself at ajaxx drive school :) (thou it costs kinda heavy)
Parent
Ok enjoy your army. :D
Parent
I'll try atleast, it might be fun! (if you don't think about the mornings) :>
Parent
even if you go to ROTC, how will it benefit you?
Parent
It does help if you are looking for a job as a manager, also I can get some opintopisteitä to School of Economics from there afaik. And not for the least, it does develop leading and social skills.
Parent
Squall dodged the army to play ET :D
Parent
im guessing this is some way of saying gamers ain't unfit and fat :D
gonna signup \o/
4games but no et, i think over cs, cod4/mw2, maybe bfbc2 and some other nerdi games
crossfire going pekin express
tl;dr
can some1 gief short version?
short version : you dont have to care, it wont affect you anyway.
Parent
racist bastard
Parent
$5,000? what the fuck? you can make that in a week ffs
Yes but you don't get to travel the world on the expense of a third party that way... I'd be content with doing this even if there was no chance of the $5k prize. I guess sitting in an office opposite subway and or starbucks for a month is much more thrilling for you.

Also I'm sure everyone believes you earn a $260k salary, hi Jamerio.
Parent
As a student, easy eah..
Parent
THIS IS A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS.
Seems pretty crap to be honest :D
gamers and an active lifestyle? bit of an oxymoron...

goodluck to the 4 tho :)

crossfire should get behind someone who enters :p
if a crossfire member was selected as one of the four i expect they'd post about it here
Parent
i would sign up if i was allowed to bring two bumbuddies or ATLEAST a woman to cook for me.
i no who u thinking about:))
Parent
but who was the girl? :P:Pp
Parent
Good chance for nolifers to show how cool they r.
backraping challenge? brb calling magico
lol gl nerds doing this :_D
lol awesome! to bad I have no time :< I like the whole idea, except for the blogging part
Why would you blog about crossing the world of warcraft world map? I'm sure that wouldn't take two months. And what is this backpack part?

.....oh wait.
kinda nice idea if it really works out but somehow this feels like a scam :p
The reputations of both Dell and Heaven Media are behind this, previous partnerships between the two companies including the "Get Kitted out by Alienware and Team Dignitas" competition (http://www.cadred.org/News/Article/90718/) and the Alienware Area-51 Pro Challenge which gave away £6,000 cash prizes to teams at Gadget Show Live, in front of 40,000 event visitors (http://www.cadred.org/News/Article/59904/)
Parent
the $5000 doesn't sound any special, but they surely have to spend a lot more than $100 000 on the other organizing like trips and stuff
Parent
The cost will indeed be more than just the prize fund, but I don't have a figure that I can publicly share on that
Parent
>spend a lot more than $100 000

backpacking really isn't that expensive :3

Even if it says on a budget, it will surely be expensive stuff
Parent
It would be cool, but not alone... anyway I'll follow it.
no one stops you from meeting up with someone who joins you there
Parent
That's true, but it would cost another $5000. :|
Parent
you can $5000, but it doesnt cost that much pp..backpacking usually isnt expensive
Parent
I've read Alienware Backraping Challenge, $5000

:S
God damnit, must be 18+. Would be kickass to go.
