Team Dignitas of course will be most peoples favorites for first place in their group, but it will not be an easy ride with the newly formed Queens team looking to make a point a day before EC starts. Recently dropping out of Eurocup Dignitas were a surprise sign-up but a very welcomed one, and as always they will be gunning for 1st place overall but will have the previously mentioned Queens as well as WinfaKt and Next Evolution standing in their way.

A team who will no doubt want to prove what they are capable of, being drawn up against ET supremos Dignitas gives them the perfect opportunity - will they be able take down ET's highest achieving team? With a lot of talent in the team and seemingly a good amount of balance between aim and brain, the question is how much have they managed to play together to build up their team play.

An OVERLOAd side with changes, seems some familiar faces in their lineup in Ati_, Kamz and suVi. The team will aim to take down the newly formed Queens team to have a hope of making the playoffs, which is not an impossibility but will require doing everything right.

The UV team could be a Dark horse of Group A, with no one giving them a chance to make it out of the groups. Their biggest game will undoubtedly be against OVERLOAd but they will need to beat either Dignitas or Queens to have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs. The pings of the NA players do the team no favors but they make it up with some nice team play and aim.

WinFakt have a real chance of taking gold in this competition with their lineup of quality players, but have both N-Evo and Power Gaming standing in their way in the group stage, both teams where it would be foolish to underrate them. Their biggest game will be against N-Evo, a team who have gone through some changes in personnel but will still no doubt be a force to be reckoned with.

A team of well known skilled players, N-Evo will be difficult for any team who faces them. Although I think their biggest game in the group stage will be against WinFakt - progression out of the group stage will only be possible if they beat other teams and forgetting about Power Gaming could backfire on them. I feel if they lose that game, their chances will be hurt more than if they lost against WinFakt.

Power Gaming will not be easy for any of their group stage opponents, impressing in their qualification for EuroCup their aim will be to get out of the group stage here with minimal fuss - I feel their best chance would be against N-Evo although WinFakt shouldn't take this opponent lightly as they have a lot of experience playing together which has formed quite a high understanding between the team.

The former NORDIC-eSport lineup, quite like UV-Gaming, will be a dark horse in Group B - not many would give them a chance to come out of the groups so they have no pressure - a group of talented players non the less who will give all opponents a run for their money, their best chance of a victory would be against Power Gaming, although it would not be an easy game.

Very nice news Merlinator.
Great job
what are the maps?
updated post, but yes mainly frost :p
Parent
not many times you see double fullhold on frostbite
Parent
only those teams playing ?
yea, two groups of four - otherwise too much for a one-day cup :)
Parent
thats true :) gl anyway with ur cup ;p
Parent
who is Iris<3'R and where is mAus?
Its mAusi lol
Parent
anyone have frost defence over 2 mins yet?
Nice layout, I like.
amazing changes, this map is awesome now. Frost is new supply
we are not on last position, mission accomplished!
gg queens :)
just came back home...how was the map going? any feedback?
I will message teams over the next day or two with some questions, and do some sort of article in a week or so. Went well though (the cup) and Frostbite wasn't so bad, most people who disliked the changes disliked frostbite previously from what I saw :p
Parent
old frostbite was way better, this new one with flag is shit :(
Parent
allies win too fast on frostbite
Parent
I think the average attack time increased slightly with these changes, as the flag gives the defending side an option to slow down attacks.
Parent
thats right, the flag should increase the attack time but unfortunately i didnt see that happen lastnight, most of the matches finished in 3mins-
Parent
make it that flag comes when cp is build.. then its not 2 izi to attack and axis can still cap
Parent
I'm a frostbite fan and I like the flag - teams just need time to learn how to defend the map because at the moment it plays out very similar to adlernest.

Also, I really enjoyed the format of last night, but the semis/final/3rd place was too much for one night to be honest. I was tired after the group games, had to dig deep for the Dignitas game then I just could not be bothered with the 3rd place game - I think these sentiments are already echo'd. As it happened, WinFakt ended up playing 3 decider games in a row which was just too much, though having Frostbite as a 'quick map' for each game was a saving grace.

If you plan to do something like this again, (which would be great - maybe something linked with your top 10 rankings? The top 8/10 teams from the previous month go into this format, 2x4/5 groups?) then you could consider having the group games on a Sunday then the semi/final/3rd place on the Monday. It'd give you more chance for coverage (though the coverage last night was damn good considering the timeframe) and it'd prevent players being exhausted.
Parent
it was good cup really nice and good matches
keep up the work merlinater and its good that all matches are done in 1day
i enjoyed this
Parent
the groupstage is very doable in one day

Im having a though of, 2x 4 teams in the groupstage

then the following sunday, top2 of each group in a groupstage and the top 2 here would progress to the final (which would be played directly afterwards)

The only problem I see is that a lot of games currently are played on the last scheduling day in competition (YCN / EC) which generally falls on a sunday :p
Parent
So stamp your own mark - say the tournament will always be on Sundays from 20-22cet and teams will be forced to arrange their CB/YCN games during the week.

I'd quite like a monthly cup in this format, if nothing else than to support your rankings and give the community a constant feed of which teams are hot.
Parent
didnt watched it but it seems you did a great job :)
it was a great cup but it took to long :p had to wait for more then an hour to play the final :p

but frostbite is much better with the flag :)
