PRESS RELEASE
Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO).
Targeted for release via Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Steam (for PC and Mac) in early 2012, CS: GO will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago (CS beta 1, August 1999).
CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.
"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombard, VP of Marketing at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."
CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and London Games Festival.

:D
E: and still is :D
Obviously I don't know how 100% this is so hopefully none of that is set in stone / real :O)
all 1stpersonshooters that are released right now only aim to get as many players, and don't give a fuck if the customers keep playing this shit. when really a game is developed for competition, i am raelly confident, this game will be a succsess
That said, I never really cared for cs.
I hope it will have IRON SIGHTS

Not true. Torbull is only there because he used to be the manager of team 3d and managed to get an invite. Lpkane (owner of ESEA) said himself that ESEA is not on valve's radar.

You're not on their radar but they invited you to to see their upcoming game?
wat
#61 we were never invited, i showed the lambda generation post to craig and suggested he email valve for an invite, he did and they quickly replied giving us two, i declined because there's no point in us both going
edit - Its possible in your response you read & commented after this post went from Rumour to Official, which would explain a misunderstanding
I just wanted to point out that ESEA are not involved in the dev.
It's a shame because their client adds alot of things like stats, matchmaking, community support, etc... to 1.6/source.
CSS - CSS 2011 same will happen :D
inb4 perks + HATS LOL HATS TF2 STYLE GET YOUR CRAZY FUCKING HATS HERE
also css > 1.6, just nostalgia nerds like owzo wont admit it (HE STILL THINKS RTCW IS BETTER THAN ET, STILL)
- feels smoother to play imo, modelwise etc
- sounds in 1.6 are ASSBALLS, when you walk forward it sounds like someone is behind you, in css they sound like where they should be (you shouldnt have to adjust to a games bad sounds to know where enemies are coming from)
- grenades in 1.6 are fucking awful, they float like balloons, they travel around corners, and they do damage through walls
these are my 4 biggest points for preferring css over1.6, also the ease at which i can find a game on IRC helps
I dont really know what you ment by that last bit, cs got their own war network and even on quakenet there is alot more cs 1.6 than css games being searched from what I've seen. :p
maybe i was just using the wrong channel though, think i was using #5on5 for 1.6, 5on5.css for css
if i remember rightly 1.6 > css at the high end of competition but that doesnt really affect me so to play at a lower level i prefer css, if i were a highskiller at 1.6 then im pretty sure i'd be on 1.6's side and be reluctant to switch aswell :D
saw a pic on esreality with CSS models wearing hats :D
tell me moar
hats bro, atleast original
i hope they allow ps3 players to play pc/mac players
anyone that ever played Quake 3 on the dreamcast will tell you how terrible an idea this is :D
anyway if valve/game-makers-in-general had any sense they would allow it and let console players & pc players use the same controllers i.e. xbox 360 controller for pc and a keyboard + mouse for consoles.... or of course use the razer hydra. ....

- this game is not going to replace CS 1.6, or CS:S, it is primary made for consoles, PC version is just kind of a "bonus"
- at the moment, the game looks more like HL2DM
- There is no recoil and there will never be. (because of the consoles)
- the game runs on L4D2 engine
- SourceTV is NOT a priority
- they are working on match making system
- new money system
- no kevlar (this should be fixed in the future)
- maps are simplyfied for XBOX style, less ways, most fights are close range
- Hidden Path (Valve only finances the game) is trying to make all weapons balanced.
Valve is going to continue updating CS:S, and tomorrow they will also talk with the players about the future of CS:S....
True or not, as expected from 2011 game :)
nothing to look forward to
just saying'
