The first two days of MLG Providence are over and this afternoon we will have Championship Sunday!
However, before the official MLG tournament got under-way we saw the finals of the MLG Global Invitational. The results were as follows:
Semi-Finals:
NesTea 2-1 IdrA
MVP 1-2 NaNiwa
Final:
NesTea 1-2 NaNiwa
NaNiwa has long been recognised as a top-level player but nobody can have forseen the outcome of these matches as he stunned the world in beating the best 2 players on the planet. Not only did he win, but he won in convincing fashion, displaying excellent decision making, mechanics and composure under pressure. Even in victory the Swede maintained his calm, asserting his confidence in the post-match interviews and even trash talking NesTea.
MLG
Boasting the most elite line-up of any tournament in StarCraft II history it was near impossible for anyone to pick a winner. Pre-tournament favourites would have been the Korean duo widely regarded as the best two players in the world: The King of Terran, MVP and The God of Zerg, Nestea. However, such is the competition structure of MLG, these players had to play through the Open Bracket, which means they had to play up-to 14 extra rounds to progress to Championship Sunday - and that is exactly what they have done.
Seeding was based on overall performance throughout the rest of this year's MLG Pro Circuit, which encompassed all 5 previous MLG weekends. Since the Korean players only joined the circuit halfway through the year, many of them failed to reach the higher rankings and therefore had to compete through the Open Bracket. The top 4 seeds of MLG Providence were:
#1 IdrA
#2 HuK
#3 NaNiwa
#4 MMA
These 4 players played their first games late last night and achieved mixed results. The enigmatic IdrA was swept by The Kratos Protoss, MC, who had just defeated tournament favourite MVP. e-Sports icon SlayerS`BoxeR might not be reaching the same heights he did in Broodwar but his protégé MMA earned himself a top 4 seed. Unfortunately he came up against one of the hottest Zergs around in DongRaeGu and was bestest 2-0. The 'foreign' Protoss's kept hope alive as they both won their games, HuK ending the impressive run of HerO and most surprisingly of all Swedish sensation NaNiwa took down NesTea.
The final match has not been without controversy, as a long delay before the deciding game between NesTea and NaNiwa has caused the legitimacy of the result to come under question. With the score tied at 1-1, NaNiwa picked the deciding map and the game got under-way. He paused inside the opening seconds and confusion arose as the stream casters did their best to fill time while the admins attempted to resolve the issue. After a 15 minutes pause, it appeared to all those watching online that the problems were resolved and the match continued without hindrance. However this post on reddit claimed that NaNiwa used the delay to watch a replay of the previous game and even coerced with his coach without any admins noticing. Since this has been brought to light, MLG founder Sundance DiGiovanni has publicly stated that he is looking into the matter via his twitter account. Watch this space!
All of these aforementioned players remain in the competition due to the double elimination Championship Bracket structure (which can be seen in full at the bottom of this post). The remaining players are a who's-who of StarCraft II legends, with all 5 previous MLG winners still left in the tournament. The results of the first 2 days have left us with the following semi-finals:
Winner Bracket Semi Finals:
MC vs. DongRaeGu
NaNiwa vs. HuK
The action gets under-way this afternoon at 16.00 CET with the 3rd round of Losers in the Championship Bracket.

If you make this kind of post, dont state bullshit
Just came back home, gonna watch all matches until tonight from now on! What a great Sunday evening :)
I hope either HuK or Naniwa (even thou i dislike him a bit) come out winning this, would be great to see a foreigner (and Protoss^^) winning it.

GO TSM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHAOX CHAOX CHAOX
lets hope leenock wins it all, hes the cutest:P
go leenock
MLG is fucking awesome. Great setup, structure, production values, casting, updates, matches, the lot - and for a player who is seeded so highly and who has previously won it, to call it a joke is so unbelievably fucking arrogant.
(plus he's a bit retarded)
and calling him an idiot because he 10pooled his greedy build
i mean...seriously,as disgusting as the race is atm
i really hope they can increase their prizepool and make some more events next year, so MLG will be "the big thing" in SC2... they definitly deserve it! I <3 MLG weekends... even thou i will be fucked up at work tomorrow :D
and yeah fuck Naniwa (even thou he is Protoss)... he is such a douche... i really hope Leenock takes this now !
P.S.
don't forget Naniwa was a busted maphacker in Wc3... (i was told from some former Wc3 players at least)
and YOU GOT GOLD?
no i dont have fucking gold nor i want it,now get the fuck out
i mean he can perform outstanding but he is just an asshole
actually something else, are you also hating zergs these days?
i really hope that was a pre-finals comment
and i mean this "not at all, atleast they put effort in the games, " he obviously didnt do that :P
what the f uck are we talking about
FIVE bunkers
the point is that protoss has been strong race for so long its just that retards finally realised how to play it properly. i mean,in the past protoss was playing stalker colos and then they were wondering why they get raped by marauder viking
okay u can enjoy ur race for some time and then they ll start nerfing it
:(
GGS @ LEENOCK
