The following information was posted on the Quakecon forums by Nate (Director of Competitions):
"Now, about the ET tournament - let me explain our line of thought.
With a tournament announcement coming out just about a month before the event, I did not think very many europeans would be making the trip. We figured it would be a mostly american, pick-up type of tournament. This is why we dropped it to 5v5, and made it a very small tourney.
With new information, and possibly some PROOF of travel plans, we may be able to investigate other options."
