PB was always shit....but there was not really an alternative and if some people started to code an alternative then they got mainly flamed by the community. Disabling it without an alternative isn't a real option tbh.

Just remove it, some would say "there won't be any cover then", but it never actually helped us, noob hacks are visible anyway and private hacks were never detected by pb.

quite smart from nc, hack pb so we drop it, and then we make some new anti cheat thingie, and they have to recode all the shit, and make previous users rebuy their bots :p

You can exploit any thing if you really want to, its nice in a way to see this has finally happened as it can only make punkbuster come back stronger.

Ok, not played ET in a while and forgot a lot about it. But wouldn't disabling PB allow people to just make a script to enable show normals or soemthing? Don't need hacks then, just need the un-pb-restricted cvars for when you get desprate during a game. It all comes down to trust in the players and every game would need to be admined. Every player closely watched t all times, and not just for the high skill games. Thnik about it, with these things being used to easily with pb gone there isn't even pb screenshots (as if they catch people these days anyway) to rely on when it happens.

In a game full of super ego's and pricks with only every 10th person being a good sport, there isn't much trust to be had as it is with all the hack accusations never mind when you turn pb off.


All this coming from memory of how et was, and I highly doubt it's changed :P.

Let PB fix this IF they want to. I mean, they have to do something now and this time it's serious business. But without any kind of anticheat-program, this game is just gonna blow up with the amount of cheaters...

PB has always supported W:ET with new patches, they have safeguarded our servers for years. Now a big exploit is found and everyone wants to ditch it, but I don't think they realize how far W:ET would have come without punkbuster. Even now punkbuster is still releasing patches from time to time, and most hacks (even a lot of private hacks) are detected right now. I doubt any community based anti-cheat client will be more effective than punkbuster, and to be honest PB is more reliable than any community based anti cheat too. Without a proper anti cheat W:ET will be totally dead. Next to that punkbuster can't be removed because you would totally need to rely on hardware based guids then.

It's still better than nothing tbh... nC are PROFFESIONAL coders who hacked punkbuster. Now punkbuster is gonna work more harder that this won't happen again. tbh pb will also increase but CHEATERS ALWAYS WIN :(

Didnt see any of gamehack violations in games with updated PB.

been waiting for a while for them to disable that shit. it's good idea to keep it for lower level games such as OC or so, but I dont see a point having punkbuster on on a invite-based high quality tournaments such as EC or any high profile tournament with prize money, not to mention lans where punkbuster is still enabled, wtf?

actually we need new anticheat system , et cant be without it , even yesterday happened that accident , pb is needed , its true tht many cheaters arent busted , but some ye , and can u image that chaos without anticheat system ? et would die in few months , so we have to test some different system ( few more exist , and maybe can be better ) and when we will know it is better then pb , then we can change them .....

Edit: They tell pbbans about false violations (like this one), but they apparently don't want people who visit evenbalance.com to know about it.

also pb screens (yes, not very much at all) may give some hint for hax.

it's just funny and ridiculous how some ppl egistered yesterday just to say "ditch pb". PB didn't do such a bad job. Ok, they made mistakes, but what do you expect? Private cheats are not that easy to detect and if they were leaked pb did it's job, even though it could only stay detected for a limited amount of time. playing without pb just like in quake is just impossible in ET, except for EC matches maybe where ppl know and (should be able to) trust each other. And there is no decent alternative right now.
