Sweden DreamHack Summer 2011 - Jun 18-21
DreamHack currently holds the record for the highest attendance ever at a LAN party and is often cited as the shining example of what a LAN party should be. The second DreamHack event of the year and the first major DreamHack event of the year was held in the middle of June, as DreamHack Summer played host to 17 competitions. The highlight competitions and those with the highest prizepurses were StarCraft 2, Counterstrike 1.6, Heroes of Newerth, League of Legends, Quake Live TDM and Quake Live Duel.

United States of America MLG Anaheim - Jul 29-31
Anaheim was the 3rd stop of The Major League Gaming Pro Circuit in 2011. After the previous success of SC2 on the main stage, it became the flagship competition at the event which saw thousands of spectators descend upon California. MLG spared no expense in their production values, hiring the best casters and offering a quality free stream with the option to upgrade to HD. Korean Terran StarCraft players dominated, taking all top 3 podium places and Korean’s overall took the top 6 places.

United States of America MLG Raleigh - Aug 26-28
Anaheim was the 4th stop of The Major League Gaming Pro Circuit in 2011. It was the first event to see the inclusion of League of Legends amongst the competitions. The story of the event was the incredible performance of Halo: Reach team ‘Infamous’. Raleigh broke the previous MLG viewership records as 138,000 concurrent spectators tuned in.

China IEM Guangzhou - Oct 1-5
The Intel Extreme Masters LAN was held in China and hosted foreign teams from around the world in all of the major eSports competitions. The LAN boasted huge sponsorship deals and put on a magnificent show. Chinese League of Legends team, World Elite, beat their American opponents in the grand final and the bad boy of StarCraft, IdrA, beat (one of his) Korean rivals, PuMa, to take the gold. Elsewhere, mousesports crushed eFuture in the finals of the CounterStrike competition.

United States of America MLG Orlando - Oct 14-16
Anaheim was the 5th stop of The Major League Gaming Pro Circuit in 2011. MLG chose to drop League of Legends for this event. Orlando once again broke the previous MLG viewership record as 181,000 concurrent spectators tuned in. 15,000 attendees saw arguably the most defining moment in the short history of StarCraft 2, as HuK became the first Western player to win a major competition against Korean opposition.

United States of America BlizzCon 2011 - Oct 21-22
The annual BlizzCon event also held StarCraft II and World of Warcraft competitions. Blizzard spared no expense in making the venue an amazing spectacle and the quality of the games at the event went a long way to engrain the competitions into our memories.

United States of America MLG Providence - Nov 18-20
Providence was the 6th and final stop of The Major League Gaming Pro Circuit in 2011. The weekend saw the highest viewing figures in MLG history, drawing a peak of 241,000 concurrent viewers online from 175 different countries. Young Korean Zerg Leenock went on perhaps the most impressive streak of the year, storming through the Open and Loser’s Brackets to take the Gold at the tender age of 16. Solo Mid beat the top seed Epik Gaming in the League of Legend’s final as Quantic won the Black Ops competition.

Sweden DreamHack Winter 2011 - Nov 24-27
The final DreamHack event of the year was the conclusion of another amazing year for the Swedish-based LAN event franchise. The DreamHack Winter finals were held in Sweden’s Kinnarps Arena with a live audience of over 4,000 fans. The Heroes of Newerth matchup between Team eZ and Reason-Gaming has since been dubbed the greatest HoN game ever, and the incredible performance put on by Cypher in the Quake Live competition left jaws agape. In the CounterStrike 1.6 competition, Na’Vi pulled out the “Greatest clutch CT train performance of all time” to dump out SK-Gaming.
