This tutorial is for the ones who have problem connecting to a server and getting the following error: PB Guid Auth: UNKN or Awaiting connection... (while your mates are on the server).
The problem:
Something is blocking the communication between your system and cdkey authentication server, it could be a firewall, a router or anything that interferes with PunkBuster. Such as a firewall or other security program.
For the awaiting connection issue it is caused by an appointed net_port that is being used by some other program, or your system is not sending new state to the port and hangs on TIME_WAIT. This causes you not able to join a server and get the "Awaiting connection..." problem.
The solution:
For the PunkBuster issue, try closing ET, run it again and do the next things:
Open the console and type:
/pb_system 1
/pb_security 1
/pb_sleep 500
/net_port any random number between 27000 and 27999)
/net_restart
/vid_restart (if needed)
And try to reconnect to the server, it should work, since it always worked for me.
For the connection issue, open the console and type the following commands:
/net_port any random number between 27000 and 27999)
/net_restart
/vid_restart (if needed)
