Team Fortress 2 ; A real alternative?

This site has posted a lot what about Quake Wars and CoD4 recently, so I thought I would write and article about Team Fortress 2 for all the people that think QW and CoD4 are simply just not their cup of tea. I'm not saying TF2 is the way to go if you feel this way, (Well, on an entirely biased level, I am :P) but as the title of the article suggests, could this be a real alternative?

Um. Team Fortress was released in December of 1996, TFC was just a spinoff of QWTF.

QWTF/ETF/Q3F are completely different to TFC/TF2 also.

Not a bad article though, won't stop me preaching that fortress forever (a hl2 mod that stays faithful to tfc) is better than tf2!

I would class TF and TFC as two entirely separate games (As you seem to do as well) as there release dates vary by 3 years or so. Any reference I make To "Team Fortress" is actually to "Team Fortress Classic" as TFC and TF2 are very similar in a lot of ways.

Not bad, apart from the fact that Team Fortress originally started out as a Quake mod before it was made for Half Life as well (Hence the name Team Fortress CLASSIC, same as Deathmatch CLASSIC, both originally were Quake games).

I said that Team Fortress classic was made into a mod for Half-Life and then became a stand alone game. Which is not incorrect. That was just a brief Historic statement, the article isn't about "Where did TF2 come from?".

The only history people need to know for my article is from "Team Fortress Classic" ---> "Team Fortress 2". Anything else is just additional. Still, I added in like 7 words to correct it marginally.

You can buy either the Orange Box for $50 or if you don't want any of the extra rubbish, TF2 can be purchased for $30. It just requires a bit of hunting down in the steam options.

A good read, entertaining and enlightening. My only complaint, and I know this is purely nitpicking, is that page three leaves a bit to be desired in terms of variation in the choice of words (you seem to use "these guys [...]" a lot). Hope to see more contributions from you in the future!

Well yes, there is spam but there are many ways to combat those elements and infact, when you combat the spam elements from an attacking point of view with features like an uber-charge or a Spy, the defense are then forced to try and combat the uber-charge and Spy attacking tactics.

That's a long-winded and convoluted way of saying this game almost has infinite possibilities in terms of counter-attacking strategies. To me, that makes the game more in depth and more enjoyable (on a competitive level at least) which is way better than ET when it was first released.

Been playing TF2 since the very first minutes of its beta relase on Steam. Its damn fun and well worth the money paid for it.
Although there has been some discussion about whether random (based on "momentum") critical hits (hits, splash damage that does heck of a lot extra damage) can ruin the competitive aspect of the game. Those who have played TF2 should know what I'm talking about.

Its also damn well optimized, runs better and much-much smoother on my comp @ maximum settings + 2xAA 8xAF than ETQW @ mid-high.
