With the end of the current Cadre QPAD Cup looming and a very successful Eurocup one just has to wonder what is next in high level ET. CDC3 on my books is the last major competition in ET as after that I cannot see a bright future for high level ET. No, the game won’t die as there is a lot of activity in the game itself but a lot of top clans will fold and one might say that old teams fold, new teams rise but in this case, I cannot see why new teams would want to be built as there will be no LANs scheduled any time soon so that generally means that suspicious players would be on the rise. One just has to wonder about the ever growing problem of cheaters, personally, I hate playing against people I don’t know as you’re never sure if they are clean or not as that is the current case in ET.
Lets take a look at the teams that made the most recent Eurocup playoffs:
Evolve – Having roster problems so there lies a doubtful future ahead of them.
Pro5 – Already folded
TLR – Have publicly stated that that CDC3 will be there last event as a team as doktor
will go work as Clown and Winghaven start adventuring into the world of Quakewars.
Dignitas – Reload and Jakazc are already in the Dignitas.ET:QW team so one wonders if they will even play at CDC3 with the ET team as both tournaments will be running simultaneously. If they do play at CDC3 its certain that they will move to Quakewars after.
Insignia Cadre – After just achieving 3rd place in their very own QPAD cup, on paper they seem to be the best most stable clan although they are suffering with inactivity.
Fear Factory – Haven’t been playing as of late and with wiesiek announcement of him quitting ET one wonders what is next for Fear Factory.
Impact Gaming – With them having recruited saintt it shows that they want to carry on although parodia did stop after both EC’s they participated in and with the core of this lineup being from parodia one just has to wonder about their future.
Vicious & Evil – Just announced a new lineup showing that they are going to CDC3, have got a motivated and active team. No current known doubts about the future of the team after CDC3.

The only 2 ‘definite or more than likely’ teams to carry on after CDC3 there are Insignia Cadre and Vicious & Evil, with 5 teams having doubts and/or problems whilst pro5 have already faced the axe.
This is all besides the fact of the release of ET: Quake Wars where surely some top players will stop ET and move over to Quakewars. Also one has to remember that some players have been gaming since the release of the demo of ET, or even RTCW and possibly some earlier games. It is hard to not lose interest or not remain active after so many years of gaming. The current activity situation in ET is already a massive problem as it is near to impossible to find a decent scrim, yes it is summer but still. The current attitude of people is also a big problem as with the odd chance you find a game, one has to deal with a massive amount of flame and laming which could de-motivate people from playing the game and loses the community feeling in the game. Because of these vast problems I don’t see a bright future for ET after CDC3.

Note that there is another comparisson to be made in this timeline, in January following that Eurocup, CXG was announced in Las Vegas with a massive prize purse for RTCW and even that LAN couldnt save the game.
My intention was too keep CDC's going as long as theres a userbase for them. So I dont see why people decide that THIS particular CDC should be the last for competitive ET. If comp ET dies then maybe so does CDC, but I'll certainly try for CDC4 with ET and in early part of 08.

also it's good that the current lowskillers will go a step higher since 95% of the lowskilled teams/players I know don't whine and flame, this seems to be reserved for the "higher skilled" people who think they are the best
aslo if you believe flame and whine is only present in ET in massive ammounts, you should check the cod2 community
ET:QW is < 50% the same as ET, so the choice to move over is not as easy to make.
What the World needs now is a 6-v-6 infantry shooter that isn't one-life bomb-defuse, but I don't see any coming any time soon (I would suggest DOD:S but most ET players couldn't live with the in-accurate weapons IMO).
I agree though, it's impossible to get a good pracc these days... Mostly playing vs some oc 2nd-3rd division clans ;/

Two players are replaceable, especially since you already had kot and sol playing, Holz mercing, ferus playing in idle.fun for summercup, etc.
wiesiek said he was leaving for the summer and probably coming back after that. Still, one player is easily replaceable (say TLR fold and doktor joins).
This doesn't really make sense IMO, just shows that they can adapt to a player leaving.
Finally, summer is no time to judge a game as hopeless, since inactivity is understandable and things usually pick up later on.

if the players dont quit it doesnt matter and i havent seen that many people quitting ET
i guess its easier to see how ET is doing after summer is over
and like some people have already stated even if all of the best players would quit, it doesnt mean the game is going to die
ET has had that already, many RtCW pros have quitted long time ago and now in the top its mostly guys that were not in the top in the first 2 years of ET
im pretty sure WoW is/was 10times bigger ET-killer than ET:QW will be =)

3-4 years ago we almost didnt have any LANs in ET and still top level player DID want to play and make teams. its because u want to win and u can win online tournaments too - not just LANs.

I've never played such a competitive game in my life.
Its fast, demands aim/coordination/teamwork.
And the spawntimes on it are very well used.
I doubt it will die, just yet, wait till 2008,then we'll see whats going down.

So even the most known clans become bored cauz there is no movement in the "scene" (your crossfire horizon here) and every1 just keeps creeping inside the ass of known players.
Just say: good these r gone now, more space for us. Clans will come Clans will go but good games will exists forever (Diablo2^^).
and lets be honest: quakewars is a cheap version of battlefield. no more of the ET feeling just as lame and as un-competetive as all the new games. the "Et is dead" and the "We make QW-clans and -cups before the game is even out yet" screamer will su soon :)
(and this always makes me laugh that skilled ETplayer now play QW just to show that they r so leet they have beta key of crap game, all this hype will end when playing QW is nothing special anymore and ppl start 2 see that actually it sux)

Its a problem of who leaves not of who remains. a game is not dead untill players play it.
