Well not all of us, but collectively as a community we are all lacking encouragement and thinking in some of the most pessimistic ways possible.
Firstly, PHX LAN was cancelled due to lack of interest after a huge amount of effort was put in to try and get ET two LANs in a year. The LAN, although admittedly not in the greatest location, was an example of people working together (ethr and MerlinatoR) to attempt to put ET on the map as an active game and keep MGCs interested. This has seemingly had an impact, as no big MGCs are left in ET but Anexis. This is also true as there are less signups made less than two months from the next LAN event.
Next, as most of us here in Crossfire will know Danje has been working hard with other known contributors in the community to create a Zombie mod for W:ET. This zombie mod has come a long way, and as the most active website for ET he has been asking quite relentlessly here to gather feedback. This is something that his team is doing off their own back, and something that will hopefully encourage new members to this slowly evaporating community. The project itself is making stable ground and is a good way for all of the people involved to practice a hobby which in some cases (especially in the case of programming) will be valuable elsewhere.
Zombie-mod became huge after it was made an official part of Call of Duty and was encouraged as a game type which later sported big releases such as Left for Dead and Killing Floor. Both these games are amazingly fun, and shooting the hell of out Zombies is a fantastic group activity.
Now, my main concern is how there are replies that follow such a negative trend.
The same was seen last night with the old story of EtPro having it's source code requested for by members of the community, years after anyone has really tried to extract it. SimonKinsler himself has put an enormous amount of effort into coverage for you all to read during the BFB, yet you treat him as a person that is knowledgeable yetfoolish.
This community is dying, yes. The community is a stagnant one that sees a very small but valuable trickle of new members that come into the scene. This game does not have advertisement, this game is not highly regarded as one of the best shooters in history (as it may well be) and the way things are going it certainly is not going to get any better, but that is not set in stone.
Most of you here enjoy ET, most of us even love ET as it is a game with an absolutely huge amount of variables, making no game the same and keeping us from getting bored as we play it.
So I ask you crossfire, the main board left for Wolfenstein on the internet, why are you all so childish, pessimistic and dubious of people trying their damned hardest to keep this game alive?

game doesn't have bright future to be honest, but i would definitely be the last one to sabotage someone's effort (whether that be new mod, team, coverage or smth 4th)
It would mean nothing to me if the game died, I just respect the game and want people to feel what I felt @ 12-13years old.
ET will always be a memory for me, a very happy memory. I can't get that feeling back and urge to play ET as I had from age 12 to 15.
I work on this project as a sign of respect to the game and to put towards the last surviving community. The last time I had a serious amount of fun was 2006, the day I quit.
I came to this site in 2008 to see what was going on within the community and was surprised to see it still alive (minus 99% of my e-friends). The community is dying indeed, and separation is what killed the game. Now as you mentioned ET:Zombies is a fun mod and to bring attention from ALL players, not just these high skillors here. It won't mean much if you have a lot of aiming skill in this game tbh, it require power, tactics and teamplay... something missing from ET for a while.
Dick.
People who say ET is dead can fuck off if they think it is
this
the problematic thing here is that you're not pointing out any way to move forward and just mentioning how fucked up the "dwindling" community is (yeah, you mentioned it like 72 times that the community is dying, which is taken more into account than people writing "et is dead").
Other major players in the scene are already working hard to try and keep it grinding on. This is a more a 'show some respect and stop flaming' than a 'i've got a brilliant idea' column.
^this
i call them 'early-adopter pros': gamers - with genuine ability - who jump on every new game with a competitive scene, compete at a high level early-on, then bail after sealing their status as legends, leaving their fans to debate for years whether the early legends would still be on top.
It may not be the most active game but it sure isnt the most inactive game.
it may be "dead" but its not gibbed, can still be revived.
:D
cause they are actually still kids?media age of et pro players i met in 2 years is between 15 and 18 years old,and those little older like 20 -22 still suffer sever damage from the nights and years they wasted among other retards,so no surprise ok?
i came from jaymod and there the media age is between 15 and 40.so when i came here i was trolled and still am that i m 31 years old playing video games.et is death?i dont think so,but beside the fact that the game dieng cause of natural causes,it also dieng cause of natural idiots
and mostly they are those who are still playing everyday =DDD

My english as always is very bad xD
Also, when someone new on this site asks for something, he gets alot of flame most of the time.
I won't say that I never flame or make fun of people, but most of the times its jut fun intended. I will never flame people who make journals like SimonKinsler did.
Making a new mod after alot of whine about hitboxes and such is doing something for the community in my opinion. The very least we, as a community, couldve done is give it a try.
Now, I havent heard of that mod before or nor do i've anything against it but seriously that's definately noone's fault here if thats not completed. Nobody is gonna force me to play something different i dont have an urge for but if the product is ready then I may try it and proceed from there. thats what i mean by earning it
The only thing that I was trying to point out is that this community is pretty defensive towards new ideas.
That mod that Nitrox was making was just an example. No need to keep on going about it.
Coming to that point if you think that there needs to be more clean up there is a Report bottom for a reason. We as admins take reports with a good reason serious.
About journals, we, speaking for the whole cf staff again allow a lot more in the journals. That's why I'm not mad about the response to my journal. I mean I could have done more research and found it etc.
But I get Scarzys point here as well if there would be less people around crossfire just to get attention(aka flame) it would be a somewhat better place. In CF4 I aim to get up a better/proper rule page and maybe some what more strict guidelines to posting, but that is just my opinion for now.
the game has also been said to be dead since 2005/6 anyways, yet it's still being played
these are all etpro TZAC servers, if you just want regular PB/NOPB servers then check the serverlist over at http://et.trackbase.net/serverlist/ 8]
we love to troll looololol
for example in a duel when a player says he's on the phone you just don't kill him till he says he's back etc... obviously I didn't but that's another thing :p, i've seen many people do it, always sportive etc
ET is just flame and whine and hate in the game & on the community site xD
Does anyone on xf not type at 100+ wpm?!
Some would point out they can charge like they do on QL - again time and effort to do that would equal.. shit profits compared to making a NEW shitty console port game with the same time and effort.
Just enjoy the game while you can and thank/Respect those who try to keep the game alive with Mods, Maps, Cups, CB.et, ESL.et and Crossfire.et
My 2cents
PEACE.
