An Interview with Malta KiL|3rBoY: Clanbase Admin, Player for Team-Malta and Member/Leader of #cheatbusters.et

Hello Kil|3rBoY. First off let's get the formalities out of the way. Could you tell us a little about yourself for those who may not know of you?

Hello readers, my name is Gary, i'm 17 years old and i'm currently attending a post secondary school (studying Medical). As most of you might know i live in the sunny island called Malta Malta.

How did you start gaming, and more importantly what lead you to Enemy Territory?

I think it was around 2004 when i first got hooked up with gaming, played RTCW:ET Single Player, but later Malta Snake introduced W:ET to me. Unfortunately i only had a Pentium 2 PC at that time, so it wouldn't run (still remember getting .5 fps on oasis). Still, i wasn't bothered speccing Malta snake, it was really enjoyable to watch, just imagine playing it. So after some weeks, i got a new pc and you can say that's when i started gaming. After about playing 1 year on public servers, i was introduced to crossfire, and my first reaction was "wow these guys are rly nolifers, got 20 replies in my cless thread in a few minutes :)" I'm sure some of you had the first reaction at first too :p

What made you get into cheatbustng?

I think my first bust started after the Belgium Sup3r scandal, i remember watching some avis Belgium kiss made about him, and that pretty much hooked my attention. After that there was the Austria kenta scandal and it pretty much started from there. Got some quick tutorials from Belgium Rafiki on how to make avis and watched some busts from England Bulld0g, and after like some busts, you get pretty confident and determined to continue aiding the community, especially after Belgium Chuckie & England Bulld0g went inactive.

You could say that a part of the ET community doesn't view you in a favorable light. Do you have any thoughts about why some people don't appear to value your efforts in curbing the cheaters in ET?

There are several reasons, i reckon about. Most of the guys that coudn't care less, and thus flame every thing i do would be mostly Poland polish cheaters. Well considering there are over 9000 Poland pbbans (almost 20% of the PB Ban list) i think some of these guys might get frustrated after seeing that their ET "career" might end soon rather than later, so its in the instinct of a human to disapprove to anything that will ruin your goal (i.e playing online in this case). Obviously there are other people from other countries who flame what i do, and after replying to me with something negative, by digging up his history you are almost certain of finding smth, so i don't really have to care about those people who flame pointlessly, no offence.

Rumors abound that you are working on a new AC project with none other than raskL, a notorious (ex)cheater and one of the most hated players in Enemy Territory. Is there anything behind these rumors?

Well, i first met England raskL sometime around January/February. He asked me to send any cheat in to him to crack/bypass it and tell me which strings PunkBuster should detect. The main bot he worked on was bimbot, and it worked quite well, over 300 bimbot customers were busted by the log.txt (logged anyone who used the bimbot cheat) and thanks to the detection he sent to PB, they managed to upadate & detect the bot very quickly, and after 4/5 months, bimbot was practically dead.
For those interested, Multihack #70534 "Your search results in Enemy Territory for 70534 Search returned 1222 bans" Also, his nC (moderator) account has been de-activated for a long time now.
About the new AC project, i guess you are referring for Anti3/ET-ACE/AntiPro. I'm pretty confident this will give netCoders something to think about, and looking at the activity, responsibility, customer privacy and other factors, i do believe his customers won't be happy about it. We have discussed the techniques and methods of silent detections, the ups and downs of PunkBuster, whats not needed and what is needed, all we have in mind is to create the "best" possible anti-cheat. It was planned to release anti-pro during this month, but do to the new features and Romania quad studying in United States of America USA atm, the coding will take a bit longer than expected.

Parts of the ET community have been calling ET a 'dead' game. Is it really worth the effort you have put in?

What i can say is that people have been saying ET is dead since the late 2005, and another 3 years have passed. Its definitely not dead and it will take another 3-5 years until its competitively not played anymore. I doubt RTCW2 will be the "undertaker" of w:ET. Was the effort i did into cheatbusting worth it? Definitely and i don't have any regrets, the only person who actually told me the above comment was someone from the nC admins, the truth is some time later, he and another 5 vital admins quit netCoders.

Clanbase has been the subject of quite a lot of flame from the ET community over the years, do you believe that there is a point where CB could be pushed too far?

People flame CB, Always have, Always will, and i'm happy when this happens. Every mistake we make is never a mistake until we refuse to do something about it, so constructive criticism or "mild flame" will help us, altough more polite requests would be really appreciated, we always listen to the communities opinion.

Quite a while ago there was the infamous Fusengate scandal, how do you feel about the actions (or lack of them) from Clanbase after the 'Fusenlist' was exposed?

I have read some old topics from ClanBase Private forums, and it seemed like a definite "No" to me. But i wasn't ready to give up that quickly, so i investigated deeply into the matter, some C&A agree about banning the nC customers, unfortunately some don't, and it's because of the legal terms ClanBase have to obide, unless we get permission from nC to use their ips for CB, i don't think we will ever ban them for the reason "nC customer" though we have been working hard into finding other methods into getting them banned. Afterall, whats the best in your opinion, a nice fancy description "nC customer" or "12 month ban"?
What i can say is that we will ban any nC customer who plays on CB, all you need to do is request the demo after the match, and that's pretty much the end to his clean reputation. Although banning nC customers for demo might not be conclusive, in my opinion, everyone nC customer deserves to get a ban, even if he claims to have never cheating in wars. The motto might be quite simple and harsh but truly deserved. "You buy bots, you get banned" simple, no excuses, end of story.

Do you feel that the Fusenlist was good or bad for the ET scene as a whole?

I don't think anyone can disagree with me, it was definitely good for the ET scene as the customers got what they deserved. Also i can tell you that from my experience Pansemuckl is full of bullox, the truth is, he doesn't know who his customers are and no one is stupid enough to cheat on EC level, and if there were any EC cheaters, they have quit before it was too late, anyone can recall when an nC customer actually won a EuroCup or CDC Lan?

Rumor has it that you yourself have a list in the making, will we be seeing a 'Killerlist' anytime soon?

Haha rumors do spread quickly, so yes you can count this as an official statement. After netCoders got exposed twice by fusen and 4 times by our team made of mainly Malta me , Italy mama, France randombuster & Netherlands Kiewan. We made up a story that Netherlands Kiewan went blowing our cover to nC. Luckily it worked, and everyone believed it, so what can i say, you got kind of rolled nC :D I feel sorry for all the customers who thought their won't be anymore lists. The list will be published in about 1 month i guess. Around 1000 customers will be exposed, and what i can say is that there won't be so much surprises since most of his customers are random United States of America usa players. Obviously there are players who are known, but these are quite low compared to the others. It's just a case of no one is stupid enough to buy from nc anymore, and that's a fact.

Sounds great! Will this new list be valid proof for a CB ban?

As i explained above, they will be "indirectly" banned.
