Chicago?

Hi,

Hope the time is good to find some Americans here.

I just realize that I will have a 6 hour stay in Chicago this summer. Means I have about 4 hours to discover the city (max 1h transfer from ORD). Since I've never been there... what should I do?

Top of Sears Tower I guess? Open for tourists?

What else? Any ideas appreciated.

red bullz
sit on a bench and wait for 4 hours
That's exactly what I will avoid...
Parent
Well it'd be enough to go on Sears Tower and take a few pictures. And maybe eat the best Burger in town. Or similar stuff.
Hyde Park.
Uhm, wasn't that in London?

hyde park gibts net nur in london :D
ich war zum beispiel im hyde park in sydney :P
und laut google gibts auch nen hyde park in chicago ;)
Parent
You best be joking...Hyde Park is a historic neighbourhood and also home to the famous University of Chicago.
Parent
Sorry my ignorance. But not knowing this is one reason I want to have at least a short impression of the city.
Parent
find webcafe, play ET.
Willis (formerly known as Sears) Tower, Millenium Park, maybe even The Field Museum. All are within 20 mins of each other, xcept maybe the Sears. But dunno y youd wanna come here, Chicago is kinda boring. Maybe cuz ive lived here all my life, but still :/
lol, was nice speccing with ya :p
Parent
yea bro :) But the teams playing were pretty baaaaad lolz
Parent
second that
Parent
Thanks for the ideas. For a museum the time will probably not enough though.

I don't expect Chicago to be as exciting as Vegas or NYC but I haven't been there before and just would like to get some impression. Sears Tower (Didn't know it was renamed) probably is the best idea for now. I also think about visiting Wrigley Field.

see a baseball game LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
haha, if time just would allow it. I LOVE baseball. Currently watching Sox at Yankees, unfortunately not as exciting as yesterday.

But I will probably watch a dodgers game in august. I'll just take a daytrip from Vegas :D

You might disagree, but many if not most soccer games are more boring.
Parent
oh for sure. baseball, soccer and golf are the 3 most boring sports to watch on tv. I guess live wouldn't be so bad for baseball because you have the chance to catch the ball. I love playing those sports though, watching is no fun :<
Parent
Actually I agree more or less. But in baseball you can pick the games which are good and exciting (there is usually more than one every day).

But yes, ofc: Playing actively is much more fun.

The reason why I like to watch baseball is simply that you are free to do other things.
Parent
actually, watching sports in general is boring. The only exceptions I can think of are basketball, hockey (strictly during Olympics and playoffs of IIHF/NHL though, rest is boring), Olympic Volleyball/Badminton, and tennis.

2. Slang Showing or appealing to bizarre or deviant tastes, especially of a sexual or erotic nature: "his appetite for kinky filmmaking, unmitigated by any artistry" (John Simon).

I know.. that must be a good thing. A friend told me, even as a tourist from germany it's no problem to get a prescription. It's kinda mind blowing that California's drug laws are much more liberal than the ones in germany.

And yes, the notices are annoying. We should continue on bottom :p
Parent
not today ;-)) this bed which is behind me is whispering some weird things to me

From ORD to downtown with the Blue line (train) is AT LEAST 1 hour and 30 mins. So you really don't have 4 hours. You can still go there and take a few pictures then go back right away though. If you have enough cash for a taxi that would be faster (10:30 should be OK with the traffic)
Besides that, I really don't know what else you might check out for such a short time. If you take the train you can stop to see some universities and get a subway EL O EL
Thank you for the reply.

Yes I was planning to take a taxi. Google Maps says 30 to 50 minutes, depending on traffic. I realize that's still not much time, but I prefer 2-3h in the city than waiting at the airport. Even if I only have time to take a few pics on Sears Tower.
