fpsdrops!

I just recently started getting some weird fpsdrops in ET, just a week or two ago or so I had stable 125 fps all the time on server without PB. But now all of a sudden my fps drops from 125, to 80 to 60, to 18, up and down all the time. Feels really unsmooth and it's unplayable for me really.

It's weird cause I remember having this problem a long time ago, made a journal about it and fixed it somehow but can't remember how :D and I deleted the journal for some idiotic reason.

what I have done:

- used CCleaner to clean up files & registry
- used MyDefrag to defrag my HD
- tried installing newer drivers
- disabled some unnecessary processes
- re-installed ET then later on tried installing ET on my second HD

can't really understand what the problem could be, the only thing I can remember that I have changed on my system is that I installed some special drivers so that I could play SC2, that's it really, and I just tried installing some newer drivers..

Are there any drivers that are optimized for games with the Q3 engine or smth? Cause I mostly play those games and cs 1.6 anyways.

Or if anyone knows what the problem could be, any help appreciated <3

hmm, I use 800x600 ingame and always used that. I'm using two monitors though, got one old 19" with 1280x1024 and one 24" with 1920x1080, maybe that causes some bs? but it's weird cause I had that before and I remember it working fine.

for dualscreen use "single display perfomance mode" + threaded optimization off in nvidia control panel

I was actually just messing around in my nvidia control panel and found that setting and tried it, pretty much 125 fps stable now! Nice. Will turn threaded optimization off as well, thanks [x

And what if I got only one display? NVIDIA sets Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration to Multiple display performance mode..

been there mate. cant quite remember what exactly fixed it. some things i done:

- switched gfx drivers
- removed demos / screenshots
- tried different values in ET config (com_hunkmegs etc)
- removed whole pb installation from my pc

hm, tried all those things except for the etconfig I guess. Will try another CFG and then maybe some really old drivers and see what happens.

threaded optimization should be set to "off", unless you already have done that then I have no clue

forces ET.exe to use multiple CPUs instead of one. once upon a time i had 125 -> ~70 fpsdrops, found that program and have been playing happily ever after :p

yes you can, feel free to tick the cores you want ET to use. i think using all four is the best fps-wise.

ET uses every available core by default, which causes lags. It is better to force ET on core 0 and all other programs like PB and Ventrilo on core 1. Doing the vice-versa of this, forcing ET on core 1 and all other gaming programs on core 0, is not a good idea.

well.. it's of course able to do the contrariwise, but for me it was the very problem, ET using only one core :p it didnt use both cores as default. i assumed that everybody would use that program the way like i do!

best tip, get used to it, i got the same sometimes, i start ET i get unsmooth fps, quit and start again and stable 125... Depends lot do you have cheats on

I fixed it already, had to change some nvida settings 'cause I use dual monitors atm :P
