Lost spoilers - plot explained

I posted in one of the journals below that I had two ideas for what it meant;

And after seeing two other people with these two points I think I'll settle with this idea.

What's other peoples thoughts on what it all meant?

They weren't ALL DEAD. Everything that happened on the island during the six seasons was real, and they were very alive. As the show ended, Hurley, Desmond and Ben were alive on the island, and the plane carrying Kate, Sawyer, Miles etc. flew off the island. Eventually, they all died at various points - like most human beings - and then they went to the alternate reality/heaven. This was explained by Jack's dad at the end, and also when Hurley told Ben he was a great #2.

The real world time line ends with several characters flying off to safety and five alive and well on the island.

And, sure nothing last forever and everyone died some day.

The sideways world was just a holding pen that is outside time and space. You don't even have to call it purgatory. It was just a place for the characters to go and find peace and work out their issues. And It was a taste of life that they missed out on because of the island. Maybe it was sappy and unoriginal to make sure to tell us that their souls lived on in peace. But it was far from killing everyone off.
