How do you guys record?

I currently have some free time so im making myself a minimovie but the problem is, recording is so slow (from dm_84 to .tga files)
I currently use image-et with the following settings
Quote
img_focusTarget = -1
img_focusSpeed = 1
img_focusDepth = 0
img_msaa_samples = 8
img_fov_samples = 32
img_blur_samples = 64
img_motionBlur = 1
img_fisheye = 0
img_depthOfField = 0
img_exposure = 1
img_aperture = 2
img_screenShakes = 0.6
img_demoSeek = 0
img_demoLatency = 48
img_captureFps = 100
img_hdr = 0

My computer isnt that slow but recording takes ages, what do the experienced moviemakers advise?

e:
image captured 1270 frames in 1144.8 secs
image captured 2542 frames in 256.9secs

cl_avidemo 100
Hoeveel img_capturefps moet ik gebruiken?
Parent
ik gebruik die image troep niet ;d
Parent
hoeveel cl_avidemo gebruik je?
Parent
ja ik dus ook :)
Parent
ik klikte nog echt op de link...
Parent
wat is dat dan? ik durf niet te klikken nu:(
Parent
hehe,

ga zelf maar kijken! je zal verbaast zijn!.
Parent
it's because you have img_motionBlur = 1

i'm 100% sure
without motionblur its much faster
I know, but with motionblur it looks better i suppose
Parent
You can just add it later? :|
Parent
output is different i heard
Parent
Obviously...But you gotta make a choice.
Parent
lol
you cant
Parent
ofc, vegas can add mblur just fine
Parent
Plz :p
dont even try to compare vegas motionblur with a 1000fps capture
Parent
i am, and i would totally prefer vegas, for one very obvious reason. I have clean source material
Parent
or just capture with high enough cl_avidemo (e.g. 200, zaigon had a nice blur and it was recorded at 125)
Parent
gonna do it with 200 now w/o motionblur, add the blur later and see the difference :D
Parent
recording on cl_avidemo 200 is fucking slow also :D
Parent
image captured 1270 frames in 1144.8 secs img_capturefps 100 img_motionblur 1
image captured 2542 frames in 256.9secs img_capturefps 200 img_motionblur 0
Parent
didnt say its slower, but still slow like fuck .D
Parent
you'll definetely see a difference but supersampling motion blur (coming from a high cl_avidemo value) looks more natural IMO
Parent
Never mind, you obviously didn't even bother to read the info.
I did, several times
Parent
If you want to know what's slow or not, visit #image.
Parent
Disable motion blur.

Rest seems to be the absolute minimum
img_capturefps 30 makes it faster
movies without so much blur are nicer anyway, moreover that gay style of dying in et-image irritates me
with /record
http://igor.r-site.net/image/?page_id=22

Read this.

And it is kinda slow because you are using high fps! So if you are not going to work with velocity curves, use 30fps. It's alot faster and looks very good!
thanks for page,seems cool.
anyway,isnt there any way how to change dying model ? :o
Parent
read the main page!

(use version 0.7.0 to get the same program with default animation)
Parent
well,I've read that,tho formulation "death animations" leads me to think there are more than just one :) thanks tho for 0.7.0
Parent
thats pretty intense
I shoot the screen with videocamera
would be still better quality than lettu's movies :D
Parent
use capturefps 200 (or higher) because when you want to slow down some action it can be unsmooth with less fps (done this fault few times unfortunatelly)

use blur_samples 5 (or higher) it means 200x5=1000fps higher isnt necessary most of the time

so basiclly you will get better faster result and smoother look

(if you have small hdd space you can try 100x10 but wont be that good imo)
Where can I download Vivid noise?
Parent
no idea :|
Parent
:< I really liked it.
Parent
its on own3d i think
Parent
But stream.... Not my cup of tea.
Parent
autoaction 7 h3h3h3
cl_avidemo 200 / 250
no uv movie ever used image. still we only rlsd superb stuff. Think this is the best answer i can give you
Parent
if you are in this thread. short question - will it make a huge difference if i capture at 2560x1440px and resize to 1920x1080px (or 720p) and if it does - resize with VDub or Photoshop (looking at quality)?
Parent
there really is no need for full HD if you plan on releasing 720p.

If you want 720p, record windowmode 720p ( i dont like recording this in fullscreen). Else use 1080p, no need to go any higher!
Parent
why the hell would you like to record in 1440p?
Parent
because i can and i asked myself if it would make any difference in quality.
Parent
It might make it worse.
Parent
hmmm - judging from my experience in photoresizing it would sharpen up the images but (also stated by others) it would'nt make a difference when the images move.
Parent
You are right on this case. Would be a bit different if one would resize something like 1680x1050 to 1290x730. There's no common factor and therefore the pixels wouldn't be perfectly alinged with the original.
Parent
since ET movies usually moving all the time you wont notice any difference. it's like using 32x Antialiasing anyway, what is not much better than 16x etc.
resize = waste of time, instead focus on editing
